Crazy Train: Friday Edition

This.

What a wild coincidence...I was thinking about digging a tunnel in a nearby park too!   Five years and thousands of man-hours and cash? Pfft. This guy has the right idea.  It'd be GREAT to barbecue in an enclosed underground space. *cough cough* And what better place to invite friends over to watch a game? Oh hey, sorry about the dirt that fell in your guacamole dude....

Monty Python Is In The House

STOCKHOLM (FRIA TIDER). Owners of cars destroyed in the riots fined for parking illegally while police adopt non-intervention policy.

Since last Sunday, May 19, rioters have taken to the streets of Stockholm’s suburbs every night, torching cars, schools, stores, office buildings and residential complexes. Yesterday, a police station in Rågsved, a suburb four kilometers south of Stockholm, was attacked and set on fire.  But while the Stockholm riots keep spreading and intensifying, Swedish police have adopted a tactic of non-interference. ”Our ambition is really to do as little as possible,” Stockholm Chief of Police Mats Löfving explained to the Swedish newspaper Expressen on Tuesday.”We go to the crime scenes, but when we get there we stand and wait,” elaborated Lars Byström, the media relations officer of the Stockholm Police Department. ”If we see a burning car, we let it burn if there is no risk of the fire spreading to other cars or buildings nearby. By doing so we minimize the risk of having rocks thrown at us.”

Swedish parking laws, however, continue to be rigidly enforced despite the increasingly chaotic situation. Early Wednesday, while documenting the destruction after a night of rioting in the Stockholm suburb of Alby, a reporter from Fria Tider observed a parking enforcement officer writing a ticket for a burnt-out Ford. When questioned, the officer explained that the ticket was issued because the vehicle lacked a tag showing its time of arrival. The fact that the vehicle had been effectively destroyed – its windshield smashed and the interior heavily damaged by fire – was irrelevant according to the meter maid, who asked Fria Tider’s photographer to destroy the photos he had taken. Her employer, the parking company P-service, refused to comment when Fria Tider contacted them on Wednesday afternoon.

Paul Krugman Is Insane

There. I said it.

He's batshit crazy. Around the bend. Cuckoo for Cocoa-Puffs.

I offer this as evidence of his mental state: eco-freaks and right-wing radicals salad, drizzled with immenent doom, and served with crunchy crackers.

Dana Milbank: Painting With The Big, Drippy Brush of Liberal Hate

This opinion piece caught my eye this morning as I was slurping coffee and doing my morning "news" crawl. The volcano of hate and the constant fragmentation of our nation's populace spews unabated since the election. It's what they do. Divide and conquer.

Red states receive, on average, far more from the federal government in expenditures than they pay in taxes. The balance is the opposite in blue states. The secession petitions, therefore, give the opportunity to create what would be, in a fiscal sense, a far more perfect union.
Personally, I think the whole idea of "seceding"  is simply an expression of frustration from people who do not feel that this government represents them. They're right. It doesn't. Seceding is not the answer though (in my most humble opinion); it feels too much like running away instead of fighting. Plus, at this stage of the game, I sure wouldn't want this gov't to have my name and personal information on a succession petition, would you? Fear of the government for voicing an opinion is not something Americans are accustomed to, but hey, welcome to the Brave New World, Obama-style.

I wonder what Milbank's numbers would look like if he (or someone more interested in facts and less interested in creating hate and dissension) factored in the circular dollar: federal workers who pay their taxes only to have that tax money returned directly to them as income. Or union workers who pay their taxes only to have that money returned to them as wages in the form of federal contracts, and federal subsidies for their pensions. Or the millions of people who pay taxes in their home state while of working age, then skedaddle for the southern climes, where their retirement income will stretch (and to where their social security and medicare benefits are issued).

These are just a few obvious flaws with his thinking. I'm sure there are many more, but flaws and facts don't matter anymore. Bow to your overlords, you lowly, tax-sucking worms! Hah!

When Will Democrats Take Their Party Back?

I know THESE looney toons don't speak for most of the dems I know. Oh wait...most of the dems I know have dumped the party and are now registered Independents. The rest are waffling, especially after witnessing the extreme-left takeover of the convention and the whole "booing God" thing.  R or D, this is BAPTIST country around heah!

Perfectly Safe Streets, Except For The Whole "Hail Of Bullets" Thing

The juxtaposition of the "unicorns 'n' rainbows" bizarre and the bloody reality of life in ChiTown...first from WGN:

25 people were shot in Chicago overnight.
19-year-old Jaleel Beasley and two other young men were hit just after 2 a.m. outside a bar in the Lawndale neighborhood.  Beasley died later at Mt Sinai hospital.
The other two men were brought to Stroger Hospital and are in stable condition
Two other people were shot in the same area within 20 minutes of the first incident. Police are investigating the possibility that the two events were related.
So far, no arrests have been made in connection with any of the shootings.

Rahm and his merry band of Ivory Tower  problem-solvers are diligently working to make Chicago's streets safer, not by controlling the horrific violence stalking the city's neighborhoods, but by doing this:

Eliminate all pedestrian, bicycle, and overall traffic crash fatalities within 10 years.

Really. I'm not making this up.

Oh Canada Quebec

Charming.

Stéphane Gendron, host of Face à Face, a daily talk show on Quebec’s V Television network, garnered a flood of complaints after a December broadcast where he said he supported an ongoing boycott of a Montreal store that sold Israeli-made shoes.

Products made in Israel on land stolen from the Palestinians that is walled in, in an apartheid regime where they are cut off, it’s very serious,” said Mr. Gendron, who is also the mayor of Huntingdon, a small town south of Montreal. “And a country like that does not deserve to exist.

And I'm sure Gendron was a vocal anti-proponent of French only (racist, apathied) language laws in la belle province.

Not.

The Dental Diaries

Toothsome tales of terror.

She is suing Colgate for a total of $100,000. $6,000 for dental treatment so far and $94,000 for future treatment.

Excuse me while I Laugh My Ass Off.

Needless to say, no dental bills were produced and no Dentists called to testify.

Another day, another idiot lawsuit dies.

A B.C. woman, who sued Colgate-Palmolive Canada Inc. over allegations she suffered serious injuries when a toothbrush broke apart while she was brushing her teeth, abandoned her lawsuit on Wednesday.

And it only cost $30,000 for Colgate's defense costs. Thank this moron for increases in the price of your toothpaste.

Oy!

Fruit Loop Of The Week

Veganism discrimination.

Yes.
Really.
This systemic discrimination and harassment that silences marginalized minority peoples’ voices, such as me as a Racialized Ethical Vegan, is a serious threat towards freedom of speech and freedom of belief

Say what?
I believe that the faculty’s reaction has its basis in the strict religious belief of ‘men’s domination over animals’ that racialized people’s suffering should not be spoken about in the same context of animal suffering and that sympathy for animal suffering is not as important as sympathy for racialized peoples’ suffering

My head.
It exploded.

The NYT Skewers Obama, Boehner

Even the Messiah Times has had enough of the petty bickering in Washington (it's petty bickering when the Repubs win an argument, but brilliant leadership if the Dems come out on top).

The contemptuous reaction from the House speaker, John Boehner, to the president’s request to address a joint session next Wednesday — the day Congress returns from its summer recess — was appalling. No matter how he feels about Mr. Obama personally or politically, there can be no excuse for his lack of respect for the office, to which he is second in the line of succession. And it was distressing to watch President Obama fail, once again, to stand up to an opposition that won’t brook the smallest compromise.

What made this even more appalling is that the president will be speaking on the country’s most pressing problem — the need to create jobs and stave off another destructive recession.

Of course, the Dems never disrespected President Bush. Nope. Also, the Times is "appalled" that Boehner prevented Obama from upstaging the Republican debate. Appalled, I tell you! Personally, if Obama has some grand plan up his sleeve to jump-start this economy, I'm appalled that he didn't cut short his vacation to share it with the rest of us.

It's becoming increasingly clear that Obama is not a leader, nor does he possess the "brilliance" the slobbering progs bestow upon him with absolutely no evidence of the fact. He's a man who has never had a real job or solved a real-world problem. Has he even balanced his own checkbook? It's "appalling" that we elected this guy! The independent thinking was "gawd, he CAN'T be worse than Bush (McCain)!" and the liberal thinking was "hey, it's time for a black man to be prez. See how progressive and civilized I am! Excuse me while I pat myself on the back.". Unions and able-bodied public assistance recipients were giddy with glee, embracing the notion that Obama would heap money on their gravy train.

Now we're swirling the drain while our President cowers in his corner, blubbering at his czars to "fundamentally change" everything in sight to the point of breaking our nation. I don't have high hopes for Obama's speech next week; fixing this mess will involve creativity, versatility, and superior leadership skills. Over the course of nearly three years in office, Obama has exhibited none of these traits.

Tiptoeing Through The Cow Patties

After the bond collapse and credit disaster yesterday, anything threatening President Obama’s reelection is seen, by some, as a threat to America’s financial survival. This debt crisis is a bigger threat to the US than a Japanese invasion in 1942 would have been.

You may not see it that way and you certainly cant get out your hunting rifle to fix it. (Don’t be a sap, kill a Jap!)

Someone had gotten to someone. My best guess and this is a guess…an expose’ by the mainstream media, perhaps Murdoch, another guess, conjecture I admit, regarding the farce at Abbottabad, information possibly gotten through spying, bribery and blackmail, threatened to take down Obama.

With Murdoch’s good friend and “monkeyboy,” Netanyahu ‘on the ropes,” with crowds marching in Israel’s streets demanding his ouster, we have more timing to factor in.

The bin Laden killing, the third rate drama of capturing an unarmed frozen dead guy and throwing him into the ocean had probably become an albatross around certain high ranking necks.

Norway was no accident, it was a warning too. It has been containerized, just as the Murdoch espionage issue is now “poor Rupert and the pie thrower.”

These Americans are casualties in a game, one like 9/11, sacrificial pawns, like Britain’s 7/7, all lies, all theatre, all evil.

Duff is a disgusting little man. Accusing ANY American President of brutally murdering his own special forces troops is beyond the pale. On top of the rest of his idiotic drivel, don't you like how he calls Netanyahu "monkeyboy"?

Shamelessly lifted from Jonn's place: This Ain't Hell. Go give him some love!

A Wonderful New Housing Project

I hope they remember to prominently display the new "food plate" that replaced the "food pyramid".

A new Bronx co-op apartment building is designed to help combat obesity.

The building, called the Melody, has a backyard with brightly colored exercise equipment for adults, and climbing equipment for children. It also has both indoor and outdoor fitness centers.

City officials say it's the first in New York to be built with design elements aimed at countering obesity.

Two flights of stairs feature silhouettes of dancing women and jazz playing through speakers and motivational signs posted throughout the building tout the benefits of exercise.

A sign posted between the elevator and stairs, for example, notes that stairs are a healthy choice.

Oh for Pete's sake.  Who the hell thinks up this idiocy?  The poor people these units are built for must be howling with laughter as they waddle off to Mickey D's.  And just what group constitutes the classification of "poor" in the Bronx?

The 63-unit building houses 63 units and is for families with incomes of $90,000 or less. Fourteen of the units will be owned by Habitat for Humanity's New York City chapter families who helped build the project.

Ninety thou is poor?  If we move the bar for the "poverty level" any further, Donald Trump will be buying his pizza with food stamps.  You can read the rest of the story here.  Hat tip to the doom 'n' gloomers at Drudge.

Is It April 1st?

The EU is set to ban all cars in European cities by 2050. So says Siim Kallas, the EU transport commission.

British reaction:
"I suggest that he goes and finds himself a space in the local mental asylum," said Hugh Bladon, a spokesman for the BDA.

"If he wants to bring everywhere to a grinding halt and to plunge us into a new dark age, he is on the right track. We have to keep things moving. The man is off his rocker."

LMAO

She Loves Him! She Really, REALLY loves him!

You know those little bags tucked into the seat pouches of airplanes?  The ones you use if you feel your breakfast coming up?  Get one.

Sometimes, you need to go away to keep your love alive. Perhaps it's the change of air. Perhaps it's the change of view. Perhaps it's just the chance to stop and pause. Who knows what it is that melts away the doubts, and the disappointment? But when I gazed at my beloved, at Lake Garda last weekend, I realized that, in spite of everything, my love still burned bright.

Hey, it's true, he looked tired. He's cut back on the jokes now. He's cut back on the smiles. But when he stepped out, in my hotel room, or perhaps I should say on the giant flat-screen telly in my hotel room, I felt a stirring that wasn't like the flicker of excitement you have on an early date, when fantasies blaze, and hopes soar. What I felt was something calmer, but also stronger: the sense that I, or perhaps the 65 million Americans who voted on my behalf, had chosen well.

Yep, she's publicly lusting after The One.  It's sick.  It's icky.  It's..it's...creepy.  Good job, Patterson.  You are now the laughingstock of all the internet.

Are They Hardcore Anarchists or Unruly Children?

The Daily Mail estimates that half a million union supporters took to the streets yesterday in central London, protesting proposed budget cuts in jobs and services.  For the most part, the protest seems to have been peaceful, although I have yet to hear how these nurses, firefighters, pensioners, and gov't workers expect to paid when the gov't coffers grow dusty and empty.  To protest without having a viable solution to offer is silly.  "Tax the rich and give it to me!" smacks of ignorance, and isn't a plan so much as it is a mindless rallying cry.

However, wherever there is union activity, you can bet that a handful of self-anointed anarchists are skulking in the shadows, waiting to create chaos.  Just once, I'd love to see the unionists beat the bloody crap out of the anarchists.  Just once!  Can you imagine these young molotov cocktail throwing morons showing up at a Tea Party protest?  Um, that wouldn't work out too well for them.  Nope, it sure wouldn't.

The scumbags made a mess of Trafalgar Square yesterday, as the unionists allowed them to hijack their peaceful protest.  Half a million unionists stood by as THESE idiots trashed the place:

Little Johnnie smashes a vehicle.  How cute is that!  His mom must be SO proud.  Idiot.

The police had a really bad day.  The Daily Mail calls it "civil disobedience", but around here we call it hooliganism.  These kids would be taken behind the barn by a handful of grown men if they tried to throw furniture through a store window in the Ozarks.  A butt-whoopin' would commence, after which said boys would not be able to sit down for a week.

But that's just how WE roll.  The union organizers here in the States have been trying to create a protest like this one, but so far our union sheep (baaaah!  Truuuuumka!) haven't resorted to standing aside while furniture is tossed around, and our home-grown rabblerousers have been kept in check.  Is it just a matter of time before one of our large cities looks like this?

Not here.  NOT HERE.

"We Don't Know What We're Doing"

Says Tom Coburn, referring to our illustrious senate.  Coburn is a republican senator from Oklahoma, and he's talking about our runaway spending.  The GAO is about to release a report pointing the finger directly at our elected politicians, and outlining billions of dollars of duplication and waste.

"Go study that (report). It will show why we're $14 trillion in debt," said Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla. "Anybody that says we don't look like fools up here hasn't read the report."

Well, I can't argue with that one.   The GAO has dug up all kinds of finincial boondoggles, but this one was chilling:

Even more scathing is the duplication investigators found in the nation's biodefense efforts, with the report essentially saying that the billions of dollars spent annually is the responsibility of no one individual and that there is no plan for post-attack coordination, this on the heels of a 2010 federal commission finding that gave the U.S. a "failing grade" in its prevention measures.

"There are now more than two dozen presidentially appointed individuals with some responsibility for biodefense. In addition, numerous federal agencies, encompassing much of the federal government, have some mission responsibilities for supporting biodefense activities. However, there is no individual or entity with responsibility, authority, and accountability for overseeing the entire biodefense enterprise," the report finds.

"There is no national plan to coordinate federal, state, and local efforts following a bioterror attack, and the United States lacks the technical and operational capabilities required for an adequate response," the report goes on. "Neither the Office of Management and Budget nor the federal agencies account for biodefense spending across the entire federal government." As a result, the federal government does not know how much is being spent on this critical national security priority."

Reading that is like running an ice cube up my spine.  This is beyond throwing billions of our tax dollars into the wind; this kind of utter incompetence could have dire ramifications.

There are many other examples of potential waste found across the yawning federal bureaucracy, with GAO concluding, "Considering the amount of program dollars involved in the issues we have identified, even limited adjustments could result in significant savings."

Even limited adjustments will mean laying off union workers.  Is that allowed, or will we have more mobs congregating to shut down the process?  After the meltdown in Wisconsin, I think it's a legitimate concern.  Stay tuned!
