I was saddened by the horrific events in Pittsburgh this weekend. It seems the nuts are coming out of the woodwork, but it's no surprise. The ramped up rhetoric of the past decade is a siren call to the mentally ill; those who would shoot up a church or synagogue, those who would gun down a man playing softball, or massacre a club full of gays having a good time, or badly beat a neighbor out mowing his yard.
It will get worse before it gets better.
I read that the synagogue in question has declared our President persona non grata until he denounces white nationalism. That's not helping, and is only pitting one group of Americans against another yet again.
I don't hang out on FB or twitter much, but I did peek in and noticed a strange silence. My Jewish friends were understandably upset, and my far-left friends and family were virtue-signalling themselves into a sickening self-satisfied dither. But most folks were very quiet. They're horrified by the carnage, and know in their hearts there is more to come.
White nationalists, or more properly American nationalists, are a hard-working, law-abiding bunch that like peace and order. All the shrieking and ridiculousness being crammed down their throats 24/7 isn't sitting well. People that ten years ago would be running to your door with a casserole and a hug during times of tragedy are instead warily peeking out their door to assess friend or foe. It's very sad. Our national motto is E Pluribus Unum, but we have become E Unum Pluribus.
I pray for the victims and their families, and I pray for our beautiful country. May God hold us in His protective hand and heal our broken hearts. Amen.
Conserving, celebrating, and contributing to the excellence that is Western Civilization.

Arenas
In Matt's last awesome post lewy alluded to all the arenas in which this political fight is being waged. This hit song caught my attention the first time I heard it a few days ago. Interesting. VERY interesting.

The Last Crusade
Trump's win has shaken things up with the right as well as the left. What do you all think about this post by author John C. Wright? Is it a lone voice in the darkness or a rallying cry that will be taken up by the men of Christendom?
Read the rest HERE.
"We are behind enemy lines. A darkness is haunting the world. The lamps are going out. As the lamps die one by one, the darkness grows.
For too long, far too long, we have patiently watched the denigration, the desecration, and the destruction of all cherished things in life, great and small. We have seen our freedoms eroded, our wealth robbed, our culture corrupted, our laws and customs turned from loyal watchdogs to ravenous wolves, trespassing on the very rights they were erected to protect.
Nor is the corrosion limited to politics. The political order is the fruit of but one branch; the culture is the trunk; the soil is the moral foundation of the people. The bedrock is faith.
But in these days the rock is shattered, the soil is poisoned, the trunk is hollow, so the fruit is maggoty and putrid. The religious, moral and cultural sources from which politics spring have also been savaged, beaten, and exiled. A whole world has been buried under a bottomless trashheap of lies and curses. All branches of life are afflicted. The enemy is victorious on all fronts."

Deep Thoughts
Whether I agree with Gavin McInnes or not is beside the point. His candor is like a breath of fresh air. He is a man who is not afraid to "tell it like it is" and stare you in the eyes when he's doing it. Breathe deeply.
The basic tenets of the liberal narrative include: Women are thriving in the workforce since being freed from the prison sentence that is the housewife’s life. Southerners are stupid, racist rednecks who are proud of slavery. Undocumented workers are hardworking people who love their families and are just coming here for a better life. Islam is a religion of peace; the extremists are only acting like that because we made them that way. Gender is a construct. Gays are madly in love and can’t wait to devote themselves to the bliss of matrimony. Blacks are struggling a little, yes, but that’s because “systemic” racism is “alive and well” today and cops are out to get them. The only problem with America these days is white men.I also appreciate the kind (and true) words on Southerners.
It’s a weird narrative that seems to come more from bratty spitefulness than from any kind of rational long-term plan. I think all these ideas may have started in the right place, but after achieving their goal of true equality they just kept steamrolling over us into the sunset. If you call bullshit on them, you’re a bigot or a racist or a sexist. All right, fine. If using my eyeballs and ear holes is wrong, I don’t want to be right.

SOPA on a rope.
The bare outline of the Stop Online Piracy Act sounds innocuous enough.
If it passes, I suppose we can simply rely on the good sense of regulators, the discretion of prosecutors and the broad minded, non-partisan good will of government officials in general to avoid any miscarriage of justice, chilling of free speech, or general breakdown of the internet.
Which is a polite way of saying we'll be screwed.
If you've not formed an opinion on the matter I suggest you read the stories about the opposition from both the grass roots right and left who are joining forces against the Hollywood bought and paid for ruling class (both R and D).
Even pure techie sources (which tend to lean left) are giving credit to grass roots conservatives opposed to the measure, even though there are partisan points to be scored by highlighting all the Rs in favor.
I trust I've made my own views clear. Thoughts?

Bunny Wunny
From the pen of John Kass at the Chicago Tribune:
Read it all here.
H/T: Zip
Is President Barack Obama on the verge of being attacked by a bunny wabbit?
Absolutely.
All the signs suggest that Obama is in immediate danger of a rabbit attack. It would ruin what's left of his presidency. And it would horrify Democrats by ushering in, say, a President Bachmann.
It might happen while he's on that ridiculous vacation of his. Obama is chilling at some exclusive multimillion-dollar estate on Martha's Vineyard, even as thousands more Americans hit the unemployment lines, and as Republicans like Michele Bachmann make wild-eyed, crazed claims about bringing back $2 per gallon gas.
"I think it's a little too early yet for the president to be attacked by a rabbit," cautioned a veteran Chicago Democrat wise in the ways of Obama. "But it's close. Real close."

Are We Ready For A Mormon President?
GOP Presidential hopeful Herman Cain has said that Mitt Romney cannot win the 2012 election...because he's a Mormon. Cain went on to say:
We've elected a Catholic and a black to the job; surely the ceiling has been cracked for others. A Mormon, a woman, a Jew, or a Hispanic occupying the White House is not only possible, but probable in the decades to come, IMO.
I too live in the South, and contrary to elitist opinion, most folks here are savvy. They know that many Mormons are not only good moral Christians, but also fierce patriots. After witnessing the lukewarm (at best) faith of Obama, I think people in the Bible Belt will trip all over themselves to vote for a practicing Christian (and that includes a Mormon) if his/her politics are socially and fiscally conservative.
I think that Romney's reputation as a flip-flopper and his disastrous flirtation with socialized medicine are more likely to sink his election chances than his faith. What do you all think? Will Romney's faith cost him votes?
"I know the South, and you have to win the South. Mitt Romney did not win it when he ran against John McCain” in the 2008 primaries, said Mr. Cain. “The reason he will have a difficult time winning the South this time is because when he ran the first time, he did not do a good job of communicating his religion. It doesn’t bother me, but I know it is an issue with a lot of Southerners."

Big Society and its Enemies
David Cameron has been promoting an idea: rather than looking at the State to run every service in Society, perhaps Society should look after itself without the parental supervision of the State.
Hence, Big Society - i.e., the antithesis of "Big Government".
(For the US crowd, the phrase will resonate a little too closely to Johnson's "Great Society", but the meaning is precisely the opposite.)
For those of us who are cheering on the freshmen Republicans in the House to enact the same kinds of "draconian" cuts that Cameron has, this cautionary piece in the Financial Times is worth reading:

Throw The Bums Out!
Ahh, I just love the smell of torches and pitchforks first thing in the morning. The New York Daily News is fed up, and saying so...loudly.
A commenter replies: "Time to take out the garbage."
I couldn't agree more. Today's primary races should be very interesting!
Voters in 30 New York City legislative districts will have a say in contested Democratic primaries, whose winners are all but guaranteed to prevail in November. This is the time to hold accountable the no-account slugs who made Albany a laughingstock, in the process running New York into the ground.

SB 1070 Already Working
Illegal aliens in towns all across Arizona are leaving in droves ahead of the new immigration law taking effect the end of July. According to this article in the Arizona Daily Sun, illegals are even being fired from their jobs.
Wow. A hammer? Maria really said that? Methinks the "reporter" may have gotten a wee bit creative. Also from the article:
Maria (not her real name to protect her identity) is a customer of Melendez. She said she and her family are facing employers who are using SB1070 as a "hammer."
She said she and her husband are afraid and are making plans to leave the state because her husband has been told he must bring legal papers into work before July 29 or he will be fired. She said she and her daughter have already been fired their jobs cleaning rooms at a local motel.
Wow. A hammer? Maria really said that? Methinks the "reporter" may have gotten a wee bit creative. Also from the article:
Melendez said he and his brothers are people with their feet in two worlds -- Mexico and the United States. Some people do not understand his and his family's struggles.
"If they knew how hard it is, they might ask the government to help more," Melendez said.
As for the imminent enforcement of the law, Melendez said he's frustrated.
"I'm trying everything I can to defeat this law," Melendez said, adding that 99 percent of the people who come to the United States illegally come to work hard for a better life when they return home.

36 Days And Counting
The gushing oil from British Petroleum's Gulf Coast well is washing up into the fragile wetlands. While BP officials scoff at the size and impact of the event, thousands of fishermen are idle, and in danger of permanently losing their livelihood. Aquatic and avian life are covered with sludge, and plants and algae are being decimated. A delicate ecosystem is being destroyed while Washington and BP engage in a slap-fight.
Louisiana's governor, Bobby Jindal, is fed up. He's constructing barriers in the outer islands whether the feds and BP like it or not. In tandem with Arizona's embattled governor, he is being forced to take federal matters into his own hands.
I applaud his efforts.
If oil was spewing into Lake Michigan, would this administration be standing around with their hands in their pockets? How about if there was a giant spill off Cape Cod?
Mr. Obama, you're supposed to be OUR president too. From a southern perspective, it doesn't appear that you care one fig about the catastrophe unfolding in the Gulf. I guess you'll care when the sludge begins creeping into the Chesapeake, up the Potomac, and onto the White House lawn.
Or maybe you won't.

"Audit the Fed" reaches across the aisle
Most of you probably aren't familiar with the financial blogger who goes by "Rortybomb" - I'm not a frequent reader myself, but I undestand him to fall pretty squarely in the technocratic Left (see his "About" page). He gets links from larger sites like the Financial Times' blog every so often; that's how I came upon this post.
I was heartened to see folks on the Left looking at the Fed audit issue in a sober, non-partisan way.

Why Reporters are down on Obama
Politico has a long piece which relates how the mainstream press are belatedly recognizing Obama's "most transparent Administration evah!" claim for the propaganda it is.
(No real killer quotes struck me; worth reading in full if you have the time, because it's well sourced and thorough. I did like the bit about David Corn of Mother Jones getting the silent treatment from Gibbs. Mother Jones, insufficiently on message. 'Nuff said.)
My one sentence analysis: because of technology (we can blog and post video - so can the White House) and economics (MSM business is dying), the most vulnerable White House press corps in history is facing a very, very aggressive administration, and losing - and not just because of their inherent weakness, but because of an ideological reluctance to fight.

How Could They Do That In Arizona!
Here is a calm, thoughtful piece by VDH. His conclusion:
He makes an excellent argument for border fences, employer fines, and the gradual attrition of the illegal immigrant pool. Enjoy!
Finally, legal immigration should be reformed and reflect new realities. Millions of highly educated and skilled foreigners from Asia, Africa, Latin America, and Europe are dying to enter the U.S. Rather than base immigration criteria on anchor children, accidental birth in the U.S. without concern for legality, and family ties, we need at least in part to start giving preference to those of all races and nationalities who will come with critical skills, and in turn rely less on the social service entitlement industry. They should come from as many diverse places as possible to prevent the sort of focused ethnic tribalism and chauvinism we have seen in the case of Mexico’s cynicism.
