The Red & Black Cafe is no place for a man in blue.
Police Officer James Crooker was asked to leave the vegan coffee shop in Portland, Ore., last month, a discriminatory move but not altogether uncommon at the java joint, a detective told FoxNews.com.
Crooker, 36, a 2-year veteran of the force, entered the Red & Black Café on May 18 and bought a cup of coffee before a customer approached him and said she appreciated his efforts.
That's when John Langley, one of the co-owners of the collectively managed shop, approached the cop and asked him to leave.
Crooker left immediately. It was the first time something like this has happened to him in his nine-year law enforcement career, he told The Oregonian newspaper.
"The places that I've been kicked out of before have been places like the methadone clinic," he said. "You're there to protect them, but on the other hand they don't know what that involves. Being gracious is part of it."
Question of the day: if a drug-addled psycho barges through the front door of the Red & Black waving a gun, will Mr. Langley call 1-800-smelly hippie or 911? Yeah, I thought so.
Officer Crooker is a class act, and the citizens of Portland are lucky to have him.
I hope the brainiacs at the Red and Black cafe know the signal they just sent out: "If you want to rob us, go ahead, because their aren't gonna be any police in here to begin with and they probabloy aren't gonna bust their tails to get here."
ReplyDeleteThe thing is, the probably will still bust their tails to get there to help morons like the people of the Reb and Black Cafe.
Obviously officer Crooker was violating the Red and Black safe space policy - his presence made the patrons feel unsafe!
ReplyDeleteConsidering that the Red and Black is an anarchist hang out where committed law breakers gather, this response of theirs is not entirely irrational!
To be clear, the Red and Black folks are paid up members of clan FcTard, and I'll not be patronizing them any time soon. That said, I agree Crooker is a class act: he walked out without raising a fuss or creating an incident. Private establishments may retain the right to refuse service to anyone, and that apparently includes cops. Well, OK then.
lady red I know that area of Portland - never been to the cafe, but I've frequented some bike shops in the area when building bikes for friends who cannot afford yuppie bike store prices. Drug addled psychos walk through their doors all the damned time. They know all the local crazies, which ones are harmless and which not. A good chunk of that crowd can take care of their own business just fine.
Again, not saying I admire them, but there is a brand of "anarchist" which is mainly effete poseur. Some of the people on the east side are hard core and walk their own talk, so I have to give them that.
