Cookies
I made these cookies the other day and they turned out to be just as fabulous looking as the blog photo's. Trouble is they didn't taste that brilliant.
I love this cooking blog, I just didn't happen to love these cookies.
Bird's Custard Powder is a staple in the Fay diet. Not really, she had to go hunting to find the box, but it does evoke many pleasant memories of childhood for Fay.
How do I love thee? Let me count the ways, I love thee to the depth and breadth and height My spoon can reach, when feeling out of sorts For the ends of dinner and ideal dessert. I love thee to the level of everyday's Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light. I love thee freely, as men strive for pudding; I love thee purely, as they turn from tofu. I love thee with a passion put to use In my old school days, and with my childhood's faith. I love thee with a love I seemed to lose With proper egg custard, --- I love thee with the breath, Smiles, tears, of all my trifles! --- and, if fate will choose, I shall but love thee better after dinner.
What? You want to lose a few pounds? I'm am sure that Noah finds you gorgeous as you are, and would much rather have a happy Lady Red with a few extra pound than a crabby Lady Red who looks like a toothpick.
LOL! Not much chance of the toothpick thing happening around here. ;)) I'm on a medication that's turning me into an egg-with-legs. Noah thinks it's funny. Me? Not so much.
Actually, I've lost eleven pounds, and I'm so proud of myself! AFW has been very inspirational. Noah has dropped a few pounds too, and we enjoy planning our meals and taking long walks. (The funnest part is when we cheat, and share a handful of oreos or a pint of ice cream. Bliss!) :)
I thought the cream filling was good, but potent. Let the cookies age a day and they are much better.
ReplyDeleteBut let there be no mistake, Fay did a fantastic job.
They can't all be gems! Keep on cooking!
ReplyDeleteThanks Matt & Jourdan!
ReplyDeletedidn't taste that brilliant nom nom nom dunno, not sure nom nom nom ok, wait a day nom nom nom o noes all eaten must make more nom nom nom
ReplyDeleteWe still have two downstairs. I will go put on the kettle for tea, have a nice dance with Fay, then have a cookie and a cuppa for desert.
ReplyDeleteOK, that was definitely strange. I went to the site to look at her recipes and saw an ad for "Miss Florrie Brighteyes" at Etsy.
ReplyDeletePeople are lifting my name left and right. There's a 20-something gay guy who stole my entire nick, FFS!

ReplyDeleteYou two are so sweet, I think you're still newlyweds :-)
That's really nice.
Oy, I'm apparently talking to myself again.
ReplyDeleteSweet dreams, guys, see you all later ~
Hey, lewy ate them all! :((
ReplyDeleteThey look delicious, Fay! I was just reading the recipe...what is custard powder?
Here you go lady red, yummy!

ReplyDeleteImagine that! Custard in a box! I'll look for it the next time I'm shopping. Thanks! :)
ReplyDeleteIt's especially good cold lady red. We Brits use it as a topping for sherry trifle (with whipped cream on top).
ReplyDeleteHeaven...
Oh my goodness; my mouth is watering! Heaven indeed!
ReplyDelete(Damn diet. I'm off to find an old limp carrot.)
/grumble grumble
In the musical "Oliver!" there is a song called Food Glorious Food and one of the lines is:

Jelly being the English word for Jello. Jello with cold custard is an English tradition:X

With apologies to Elizabeth Barrett Browning.
Fay Barrett Browning is among us!
