Big Bad Bow

In an attempt to be somewhat magnanimous, I suppose at heart there's nothing actually 'wrong' with Obama's bowing to anyone who will stand still long enough (in the US at least). But it does seem an odd habit for an American President. More at, yep, Weasel, again. I do like the look on the Navy man's face though. Can you imagine what might be running through his mind.

  1. OK, he's an expert at bowing and reading teleprompters. I watched a few minutes of his LOOOOONG speech this morning and almost fell asleep along with the audience. At least GWB was entertaining when he'd mispronouce or make up words.

  2. I turned the channel and it's Michelle Obama doing a PSA. There's no escaping these people!!

  3. What is it with Obama and bowing to everyone on the planet? Americans don't bow. Where did he get that from?

It's not just a bow at the waist, either. Oh no, he has to put his head down, and tuck his chin into his chest like a whipped puppy. It's really embarrassing.

  4. I wondered the same thing, lady red.

But then he DOESN'T bow to the person to whom protocol demands he do so - QEII.

    Go figure.

  5. Yes, he's a conundrum, lady red. When he's not bowing, he has his nose up in the air, like he's smelling something not-quite-right.

  6. Florrie, I don't understand it at all. He's one of the most arrogant men I've ever seen, but yet he bows and scrapes to the strangest people. The mayor of Tampa, FFS?

  8. I'm going to tell you people one more time. You MUST read Game Change.

It addresses all this stuff. It really does.

And I'm also going to give one teeny hint of a spoiler - I actually came out of reading the book feeling some sympathy for Michelle Obama.

Yes, I did. Me. And I went into it detesting her in a way I thought was completely uncompromisable (is that even a word?). Believe it or not it's possible to change that around a bit. It really is.

And the book does not pull punches, either.

Florrie, I'd be happy to mail you my copy if you can send it back before the middle of March! I have to take it with me to SB Live in Killeen for someone else to borrow!

And, dammit! I want to discuss the darn book with someone!

  9. I requested it upon your recommendation, afw - I'm #156 in line at our library, so it'll be a while!

  10. Aw, you're so sweet, afw. It would probably take me that long to read it. Thanks anyway, I should just order it on Amazon, I know my mom and sisters would love to read it also.

  11. OK, you convinced me, I'll go order it...

  12. AFW, who wrote Game Change? I will see if I can get it at one of our local libraries.

  13. Mark Halperin, Sidd.

I just ordered it. Of course, I had to get another book so I could have free shipping...

Plus ordered two more used hardcover books that were on my list...

Thank the lord for Amazon :-)

  14. I'm sure all the libraries will have it, Dances, but you'll probably end up like me - request #156 - as it is so popular. That's why I ordered it from Amazon, hardcover is more than half off for $13.

  15. I'll see if the University library has it. I'm currently on an "Amazon Budget". Sob!

  16. Well, I have no credit card, so Amazon, or pretty much anything else, is out of my reach.

  17. Sidd, have you thought of setting up a PayPal account? It's easy, it's secure, and you'll be able to shop till you drop!

  18. I hear you, lady red. I am on an "amazon budget" too but since it's been a couple months since I ordered anything, (and, more importantly, in the interest of afw's well-being), I felt I better order it pronto.

  19. Sidd, you should have at least one. It helps your FICO score and credit rating. We just pay our AmEx off every month so there's no interest or service charges (no annual fees, either); plus we get $$ for using the card. At the end of the year, it pays for our Costco membership - $50 - so it's a win-win situation.

  20. Thanks, florrie! I'm ready to explode here with book discussion I'm unable to discuss!

  21. Oh yeah, I forgot about paypay. Good idea, lady red.

As much as you like to read, Sidd, I would think you'd enjoy buying books from Amazon. I was thinking of buying At the Gates of the Alamo just because I loved it and will surely read it again sometime down the road.

AFW, have you tried 'Arc Of Justice' yet?
