This is possibly
the scariest component yet of the ongoing progressive overthrow of our Republic.
President Obama will pressure colleges and universities to change their behavior by ranking them according to a government formula that measures tuition, minority enrollment, graduation rates, student debt, and graduates' earnings.
"We're going to start to rank universities, understand who's doing a good job and who's not, and ultimately start to move financial aid, move resources, towards those universities that are very serious about this mission," Education Secretary Arne Duncan told MSNBC Thursday morning.
Why bother electing representatives? Obama and his puppetmasters have a plan, and they have no intention of letting an impotent and flailing Congress stand in their way.
If the conservatives don't get off their collective behinds and fight back, we'll wake up one morning (soon) and be presented with a fait accompli.
When Duncan says "minorities", I don't think he's talking about Americans of Asian descent, do you?
ReplyDeleteIt wouldn't surprise me if lending standards were relaxed specifically for schools like Howard and Morgan State, similar to the lending standards for home loans that nearly bankrupted the country.
Oh wait...
"The Education Department is taking new steps to help parents obtain federal college loans if their applications are rejected because of minor problems in their credit history — an effort to address complaints about tighter lending standards that has hurt enrollment at historically black colleges and universities."
Oh, and don't let those pesky little test scores alarm you.
ReplyDelete"U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan joined city and state education officials Tuesday in trying to soften the blow of an expected drop in test scores when officials release the results of new state exams Wednesday.
“We should absolutely not be alarmed if test scores drop as a result of these more rigorous expectations and higher standards,” said Duncan on a conference call. “That’s because these new assessments and standards are now aligned to mark and measure what it truly takes to adequately prepare students for the real world.”
A source familiar with the city results said scores had dropped by about 30 points. “Very few city kids passed the test. And almost no kids of color passed the test. It’s a disaster.”
He can rank and rate all he likes, but Congress will have to approve of the changes in student loan funding.
ReplyDeleteWhich is unlikely.
I think Obama is simply campaigning for the sake of campaigning here; it's what he does. Governing, not so much. Not even with respect to the things his base ostensibly elected him for.
This strikes me as an initiative which is "portable" - assuming Congress roundly ignores it and the next president (whoever she is) lets it expire, Obama can run his ratings system from some foundation and use it as a kind of extortion vehicle.
