Some good news on this Thanksgiving day.

The more time goes along, it becomes more evident that COVID has more to do with government control of people's lives than it does with public health. Yesterday I received an invitation from my old place of employment to a get together at a restaurant in a couple of weeks even though I am now retired and have not actually worked for two and a half years. I had to decline the invitation because I have not had the jab. I have no intention of getting the jab, but people in British Columbia have to prove they have been "vaccinated" to go to sit-down restaurants. Since I have not been, I can't go.

COVID has been a wet dream for want-to-be tyrants all over the world. The Provence of Alberta, which used to have a reputation of being fairly conservative, has been especially harsh. This past May I wrote a post about some of the measures being taken in Canada in the name of COVID. In that post I included two photos. One of those photos was of Pastor Artur Pawlowsk being arrested. He was stopped while driving home from his church. His was charged with crimes against the people, or some more palatable Orwellian phrase. He had previously denied access to his church when a health inspector came with police officers to inspect whether his church was abiding by COVID restrictions. He told them they could not come in without a warrant. They left that day, but they have been making trouble for him ever since.

Pastor Pawlowsk was found guilty of whatever he was charged with. Part of the sentence imposed by Justice Adam Germain was that any time the Pastor criticized the government during a sermon, he also had to say that he was wrong and also provide government "facts" about COVID. That is what passes for freedom of speech and freedom of religion in the Great White North, especially when it concerns a Justice whose position was a political payoff.

Fortunately, Justice Jo'Anne Strekaf of the Alberta Court of Appeal put a stop to that nonsense, albeit temporarily.  The main hearing in the Court of Appeal will be next June, but at least the diktat is suspended until that time.

On the heals of the Kyle Rittenhouse verdict, it is right to give thanks. Hopefully these are indicators of better times ahead.
