More Random Thoughts

I just returned from my weekly grocery shopping. The shelves were emptier than I've ever seen them. I wasn't planning on adding to my (reasonable) stockpile, but given the evidence in front of my nose I grabbed another big bag rice, frozen fish, and more canned goods. How long will people accept this "new normal" before they rebel?

It's been raining here, and raining, and raining. While it's great for the water table (I have well water), it's hell on mowing and other outside projects. I need to restain my little cabin in the woods and I have some fixing up to do.

Work has been a challenge. My colleagues and I are exhausted. Nursing homes are forced to take sick folks by hospitals, turning the isolation hall into a med-surg unit. We're not set up for that. This is all new over the past few months. Full gear to enter a room, each time. It's VERY time-intensive. The sick people aren't getting optimum care because the typical nursing home nurse has 25-30 people to care for. It's insane. Meanwhile, corporate is bitching because we're logging in too much overtime. Just breathe, one day at a time, one hour at a time.

My granddaughter has turned 13. Can you believe it? All of you celebrated with me when she was born, and here we are now, in teenage-hood. She's such a joy and an inspiration...big-hearted, a wonderful artist and guitarist, adventurous and happy. I'm truly blessed!

How are things going in your neck of the woods, my cherished friends?

  1. Little late to the party lady red, sorry! My comments for what they are worth:

Grocery stores here for the most part are very well stocked. At the beginning there was no TP, or paper products at all (because all the idjits and gougers ran amok). We didn't need any because we had stocked up before the madness ensued. There were a couple of weeks here you could only buy 2 of any one type of item, eg bread, only two loaves regardless of type etc. Then when all the hoarding stopped and people realized that the supply chain was still working almost everything was plentiful and freely available everywhere. But not all is nirvana. Right after the hoarding stopped, the social distancing, number of people in a allowed in a store thing started. So, now you can buy whatever you want, whenever you want. BUT, you have to stand in a line up to get into the store because they can only let a set number of people in at one time. Luckily, most of the stores have "senior" shopping hours beginning at 7am every day. Sheer bliss, no line ups, no assholes. Bakery, produce, and meat, all freshly stocked!

    1. Yeah, I like the early hours too, Fay. I go to bed between 5 & 6 so I just stay up as most senior hours and 7-8. And it *is* the perfect time to get items that may be out later in the day.

    2. Glad to hear Canada isn't as screwed up as the USA. Florrie, I also shop at odd hours, but sometimes have to pick up a scrip and so I brave the (decreasing) crowds.

  2. I hope, work wise, that things are easing up for you and your colleagues. You are amazing. Stay safe. Love you x.

I can't believe E is a teenager! As is my grand nephew "Sweet baby James" he turned 14 last October.

    1. Nope, at work we are saddled with an ever-increasing workload as they add to/adjust covid parameters. We are stretched to the breaking point.

Sweet baby James! 14 already! Wow, how our loved ones are growing up!

  3. How did I miss this post? So much for the notifications. Or did I just miss it?

Today on FB someone posted something about how protesting the lockdowns was right. And in spirit of that people should start running red lights because who is the government to say that people cannot keep moving when they want to.

Damn some people are stupid. Meanwhile people with other conditions are not able to do anything about them because things are still somewhat shut down. In some places people are not able to get cancer screenings. I have also read that some people are not able to even get cancer treatment.

All so governments can pretend it's 1984.

My oldest grand-baby will be five this year. No, it's not 13 but still!

  4. Em, that beautiful little girl with the gorgeous brown eyes is 13??? No wonder I feel old, time has flown by!!

Thanks for all you've done for those in need, lady red. God bless you. Be careful and stay well, I hope your work schedule eases up soon.

It's sad and horrible that nursing homes are forced to take covid patients. Our state, run by Gov. Snake, has made lots of mistakes in his policy but at least he hasn't done that. I guess the initial deaths centered in a single nursing home early on gave everyone a good idea of what NOT to do.

We had no TP for a while and food stocks were low but I've always been careful to try to avoid viruses so we had lots of hand wipes and sanitizer plus I keep at least a month's supply of food on hand. So we weren't really impacted. The stores here are basically rationing meat so people don't "stock up" again, and TP is once again on the shelves.

I'm back to going into stores but wear the GD mask. I don't care about the social distancing, I think that's ludicrous. Tom's work is essential so we are lucky in that regard as well. I'll close with my favorite gif...

Never mind. I can't figure out how to do it. I wanted to do a garden post but don't know how to make my photos work to img.

    3. Thank you so much. I'd use lewy's codez but that won't help. All my photos are in a file in my laptop and I need them to be in a storage site - like photobucket - to get a code so I can publish them. My photobucket account expired a year or two ago.

I have no img code with which to post the photos...I feel dumb but there it is.

    4. OK, I think I have it figured out. It's just been many moons since I posted a thread with photos.

  7. lady red, can you do a test post using Anonymous and see if the "I am not a robot" check comes up? I did and that's me above.

    1. Fay, yes, the "I am not a robot" check is on.

  9. Okay, so the confirmation "I'm not a bot" seems to be working for anyone posting as Anonymous or Unknown. There seems to be a different process depending what browser you are using. I'm using Chrome and I only see the box to check, Matt is using Firefox and he gets the "how many pictures have whatsits in them". He tried it with Firefox and the anonymous comments just disappear. So maybe this will work to get rid of our latest visitor. We can always change it back to the original settings if you are not comfortable with it lady red.

    4. The way it was set someone had to have a Google account in order to comment. I wonder if that’s why we never got comments even when the statistics indicated we had traffic. Kinda like the old Far Side when the sharks realize that their fins indicate their presence and make people get out of the water and run to the beach.

    5. Yes, I don't use my google browser that often (as I loathe google) but I can't post comments in my usual browser. So I'm sure when I look up new posts that it registers me as a traffic number but I have to then go to google to comment.

    6. We switched off the "Google login only" feature florrie so you should be able to log in without Google.

    7. Florrie: You don’t need to use the Google browser (Chrome), you just need to log into Google. I guess using Chrome logs you into Google, but there are other ways of logging in. You should now be able to make comments without Google but you will need to log in to make posts.

As for the photos, on the page where you write the post there is a toolbar up above the writing space. On it there is an icon that looks like a picture. Just click on that and it will let you upload a photo from your hard drive so you don’t have to use Photobucket. I think we had to do that but it was years ago.

What is your browser of choice?

    8. Thank you, Fay & Matt. I think I have it figured out, I was confusing images in comments with images in threads.

Right now I'm using Bravo, it has a lot of glitches but at least it's not google. I have MSedge as well but seldom use it.
