  1. Congratulations to all the Canadian women. (Including Fay!)

I didn't watch but it sounds like it was a hard fought and exciting game.

  2. It was a heartbreaker for the US team. They were 2 - 0 up with 3.5 minutes left. The puck missed an empty net by bouncing off the goalpost and the Canadians scored two goals in 2.71 minutes to send it to overtime. The overtime goal was scored while Canada had a (wo)man advantage of 4 on 3. I really, really, thought the US was going to win this game. Never say never I guess :)

Our women's curling team also won the gold medal today. Achieving an Olympic record by playing 11 straight games undefeated.

    Go CANADA!

    1. How many countries sent women's curling teams, anyway?

I.e. who did Canada have to bribe to send teams so they wouldn't win gold by default?

    2. Did Joy Tottman get a gold medal? She earned one.

  3. Nice try lewy, the teams Canada beat:

China, Sweden, Great Britain, Denmark, Switzerland, Japan, Russia, the United States, Korea and, of course, Great Britain again before the gold-medal game.

  4. BAh! No bites on the "joy Tottman" bit. She was the UK Referee in the womens' USA/Canada hockey game. A referee who mucked up the sudden death overtime like the poser she is...possibly to the detriment of Canada, definitely to that of the USA. In overtime of all places this ref-idiot calls three dodgey penalties, two clearly unnecessary (one a cross checking of a player already on the ice by a player falling to ice in a pile up?) and the third a blown penalty shot call, which would have been in Canada's favor, that she made a minor box penalty...for a Canadian player in full control of the puck on a breakaway in full control heading directly for the net that was taken down from behind. THAT calls for a penalty shot.

I have been a hockey fan since 1949 when my father took me to my first game, and most Saturday nights thereafter as I grew up to my teens. Played pond hockey and even in high school (I was a lousy skater, much better skier) He had season tickets and games in those Original-Six days were only on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday nights. Saturdays were mine most of the time. I have not been a fan of some of the many changes in both International and NHL games, in particular the over-time rules of today. Nor of the morons who call "cross-checking" on a player falling down on top of another player already on the ice.

Canadian girls won, honestly, even with the impediment and, conversely, periodic assistance by an idiotic referee. Tottman just wrecked the end of the game for anyone who has ever played it. The perfect award for her would be a white red-tipped cane.

The Canadian men's team beat the US squarely, and I will routing for them tomorrow against Sweden, who surprised me by beating Finland...who in turn did not surprise me by beating the US for Bronze. If I were a betting guy I'd have bet on Finland for Gold.
