Bibi

29 year old "Ben Nitay" in 1978. Just as smart, erudite and handsome then as now.

Go Bibi!

PS Ben Nitay is the Anglicized version of Benjamin Netanyahu.

  1. Seen this before. As always, Bibi does a great job explaining reality to people.

  2. His best interview was one, in English, in a air raid shelter during the first Gulf War [Desert Storm]during what was called "Desert Calm" circa 1991...e.g., Israel cooperated with the US and did NOT retaliate against Iraq for the Scud missiles fired upon her.

I knew who he was, the younger brother of Colonel Jonathan Netanyahu of the Sayeret Matkal service of Entebbe fame, and an that he was an ex-soldier, also of the Sayeret Matkal, that might have also been on the Entebbe raid had he remained in the IDF service. Israeli politics are almost mysterious to us, but one thing is not, Bibi Netanyahu is no punk ... and in my opinion, has handled our infantile President and his administration as well as anyone could, better than most.

I've tried to find the interview in the shelter but haven't been successful.

    1. Aridog, I found it!!! Here's the video - or at least part of it. It's a compilation of Linda Scherzer's interviews during the First Gulf War:

CNN's Linda Scherzer interview with Bibi in gas mask. Bibi's part starts at the 58-second mark.

I was sure a quick google would turn up Bibi's bomb-shelter interview immediately but it was darned difficult. (You'd be astounded if not horrified at the antisemitic drivel I found along the way.)

In fact I tried for ages yesterday with no luck besides finding a transcript of the interview (which I didn't bookmark and now I can't find it!) but today I used a different term and the video turned up immediately.

I remember that interview very well. I was watching it live when the air-raid sirens went off. We had to leave the TV and the interview to rush into our sealed room to put on our own gas masks. What a crazy time that was.

Now I've been watching the video through to the end, it's funny to see how much has changed and how much hasn't. The Russian immigrants were all largely absorbed successfully into Israeli society. The settlement being built at the end of the video is now a thriving little town where my niece lives. :).

    2. Annie, I would, unfortunately, believe any level of anti-semitism from the majority of jackholes who inhabit the sorry planet.

But trying to listen to that interview through the gas masks makes me crazy. It is a little clearer when Bibi comes in, but not enough so for a mind addled by three glasses of annual-celebratory port on an empty stomach.

I will try again next year.

    3. *Swoon*

He states his case so very well. I admire and respect him deeply.

It always sticks in my craw when I see liberals like the smug academic in the audience that the camera keeps panning to for reaction, smirking as Bibi speaks. Those people don't understand honest, respectful debate. Or, at least, he doesn't appreciate Bibi rebutting him, judging by his smarmy reaction.
