Song Of Bernardette - Jennifer Warnes
Jennifer Warnes sings Leonard Cohen, from the Famous Blue Raincoat album. Oh my, how I love this album. Thinking of our friend Solus tonight and saying thank you lady red for keeping his memorial on the front page of the newly decorated blog.
He was a chubby, nerdy-looking, glasses-wearing guy, who was always staring down at his guitar as he played. Then would raise his head and push the black-framed glasses back up his nose.
His father was a local businessman, and he worked in the store, so he was never allowed to grow his hair long, or even wear bluejeans. The rest of us looked like rock & rollers, while he stood, unmoving, in slacks and a dress shirt.
But he could PLAY.
He studied the riffs of all the songs in our list, and anything else he liked to listen to.
He was not creative, particularly, but his licks sounded as close to what was on the song as if the guitar player from the original band was channelling through him.
I have not seen him in nearly forty years, or really thought of him, either. But his name was in the paper, today. Dead of cancer at 59.
Thank you Fay. This is a lovely interlude. Solus will always be a part of our TCKT family. He blessed our lives with insightful brilliance, a wonderful dry wit, and friendship. His warmth lives on in our hearts.
DWT, I'm truly sorry for your loss. It's always a shock to see an old friend has passed; seems to happen a bit more often these days, doesn't it? Sunrise, sunset.
Well, I guess it wouldn't have the same impact if it was "Famous Blue Snuggie". :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful song, I was not familiar with it.

Yes, absolutely.
"What a beautiful song, I was not familiar with it."
DeleteThat's because you are too young :)
The song was co-written by Warnes and Cohen.
"Famous Blue Snuggie" will be the next album from Beck. :)

Rest In Peace, Jack.
I miss Solus very much.

'Sunrise, Sunset' Of course that made me go and find the song from Fiddler on The Roof.
DeleteI miss Solus, too.
