"A heinous, despicable and honourless crime"

The wonderful Canadian columnist, Christie Blatchford, has been reporting on this crime investigation and trial since the beginning. Here is her summary after the verdicts.

The trial judge:

“The apparent reason behind these cold-blooded, shameless murders was that the four completely innocent victims offended your twisted notion of honour, a notion of honour that is founded upon the domination and control of women, a sick notion of honour that has absolutely no place in any civilized society.”

By using the words “honourless” and “shameless”, Maranger was tossing back at Shafia some of the very epithets he used so often when speaking about his dead daughters.

The mass honour slaying of Zainab, Sahar and Geeti — respectively 19, 17 and 13 — and 52-year-old Mohammad, Shafia’s other, and sadly barren, wife, ranks among the worst in the sordid history of honour crimes.

  1. I read about these murders a couple weeks ago on Geller's blog. It absolutely turned my stomach.

Would it be permissible from the PC police to label the Muslim parents and son that killed these four women EXTREMISTS???

  2. Of, course, NBC and the AP both failed to use the "M" word when talking about these crimes. You just know that if those people were Christian, the MSM could not point that fact out enough.

  3. To its credit, Canada's four major MSM rags (Toronto Globe and Mail; National Post; Toronto (Red) Star and the Sun) all carried thorough, in depth reportage. The best columnists at the Globe, Star and Post (all women, interestingly) were absolutely brutal in stripping the PC away from the issue- even the Crown (ie., the DA) and the judge referred to these murders as "honour killings". And the online commenters- without an exception- were scathing in their denunciation of these three monsters.

Canada was fortunate that Shafia's hubris drove him into a trial, unlike Aqsa Parvez' murderous father and brother, who pleaded out and no trial was held.

I don't doubt that worse honour crimes than those committed by Mohammed Shafia, Tooba Mohammad Yahya and Hamad Mohammad have occurred in the ummah- but I trust we'll never see anything like this in Canada again.

Sickening. RIP, Zainab, Sahar, Geeti and Rona.

  4. A sad and horrible fate for the victims, and thank God the vile killers got life in prison.

But, as the article said, the number of 'honor' killings is increasing all over the world, with the foolish allowance of muslim immigration into civilization.

There really is no place for such crimes, OR those who are culturally disposed to commit them, in any civilized nation of the world.

  6. I was sickened when I read about this. Four lives, snuffed out forever.

Earl and DWT, your comments are spot on.
