How's That Working Out For Ya?

Oakland Mayor Jean Quan isn't quite as enthralled today with the OWS movement in her city as she has been in the past.

As our late friend Solus Rex would say, schadenfreude ensues.

  1. But why do people such as the Mayor of Oakland insist on ending up schaden with our freude?

  2. Anarchist, loser vermin, all of them, if the City of Toronto experience with this rabble was anything to go on. Absolutely filthy living conditions; nil civic responsibility; dripping with entitlement.

  3. OWS was granted a guest post in the Financial Times' blog yesterday. link.

I've said before that some OWS positions (such as they are, when articulated by sober and thinking people - who are a distinct minority within OWS) aren't that far from Tea Party positions. I think this FT post is a good example. I don't agree with all of it but I feel like I could sit down and have a rational conversation with whoever wrote it, and that I'm much closer to their position than I am to that of Jamie Dimon or Jon Corzine or Barney Frank.

The thing that bugs me is that nobody in the media is connecting these well thought out spokespeople with the rioting, ODing, defecating fleabaggers who continue to infest various locales. Nobody in the media would give any conservative that kind of pass.

And so, while admittedly I didn't start out this way - my contempt for and general disparagement of OWS has grown to a point where I don't see any point in cooperation. I just take whatever any of them has to say that makes sense (a rare thing) and co-opt it.

  4. Good points, lewy. To a large degree I think the Tea Party has degenerated as well, from a very mixed bag of people politically who were sick and tired of big gov't and big gov't spending to narrowly defined conservatives.

    1. Yes, the Tea Party seems to have fizzled. I believe it will be reborn, but perhaps it won't have the same name, or the same exact focus. I'm heartened to see Big Religion kicking back against Obama and his ilk; at this point, we need all the allies we can get.

Not quite ... okay, a bit of OT ski racing porn follows, vis a vis ladies undergarments that mirrors my opinion :-)

Tina Maze, Slovenia, was recently "investigated" by the bureaucracy that is the FIS for using underwear that allegedly (per a whiner/loser) gave her an unfair advantage and made her faster. Say what? Here, in typical Tina Maze humor, while on the winners podium, in front of international television cameras, is her response after finishing a race recently ...

Now consider that she is beautiful, has a long history of excellence in alpine racing in all 4 disciples, and that she is unquestionably one of the top 3 racers, who ski both technical & speed disciplines well, in the world ... this year without doubt, since she's 2nd only to American Lindsey Vonn for overall world cup points.

Any young lady who can ski at 80+ mph and do well has my vote, and dirty old man affection, to boot!!

Now back to regularly scheduled discussion of various "Occupy" pussies.

    1. Ari that's an awesome photo. Oh and the skiiing photo is cool too. ;)

I think that when you're pulling serious G forces by skiing 80 MPH and you're a female, that "support" takes on a whole other dimension.

  6. Lewy, I think you're seeing the situation clearly. I too have noticed an overlap between the few responsible, sane OWSers and the TP; however, the nasty sewer of trust fund babies, hippies who dropped one too many hits of acid, and desperate street people/mentally ill who make up the bulk of the OWS "movement" is beyond pitiful.

When I received my latest issue of the American Journal of Nursing, I was greeted with an editorial supporting OWS and the Arab spring. Why an educated woman dedicated to helping people and saving lives would fawn and gush over such abominations of humanity is beyond my understanding.

Needless to say, I will not be renewing my subscription to AJN.

  7. Dang migraine woke me up ... so likely all alone I've got a comment or so to add ...

As for OW folk and TP folk, I find little similarity. The OW people in general remind me of the protesters of the late 60's and early 70's (except today they're even bigger punks)... perhaps even more short sighted today than back then, when "the war" was a major issue many ways, not the least being the 50,000 odd KIA's. Compare to today, regardless of how one feels about Iraq, Afghanistan and various other "stans" and the "democratic Arab Spring" that isn't really. And today's OW folk are a spark away from the same old clueless violence.

Trust me when I say I and many others deeply resented the sentiments of many of the protest movements back then, and today are deja vu politically. A bunch of privileged squatters and facility usurpers around the country don't inspire me much, or give me any reason to find common ground. I think that's because, save the rhetoric, and well meaning parsing, there isn't any. I'd not have objected if a battalion of sword wielding mounted Cossacks had swept Wisconsin's capitol grounds clean, not to mention sundry "parks" across the country.

Some want tax returns of candidates? I want tax returns of the OW squatters. I think that would be very revealing. Next, lets see their voting records, not for whom, but just if they voted anywhere at all.

As for the egregious acts of bureaucracy, government or private sector, hello, what's new there? You join the system to change it. Change won't happen if you just "protest". And please spare me the comparison to the Civil Rights Movement ... and I don't mean the likes of Huey Newton or William Ayers.

    Aggghhhh. Rant over.

    LOL!!

I don't want to kill any of them but I'd sure like to see someone plant their boot up a few a$$es. Did you see the tape of the retired cop in DC who tried to take down their "tarp-tent" in his neighborhood park and got assaulted, spit at and abused in general for his trouble? Even though the trespassers have been ordered out? I guess the DC city council forgot to tell the police to enforce their ultimatum...

Although they finally cleaned the tent people out of the Capital Lake park here in Olympia about a month ago, it's still ribboned off so NOBODY CAN USE IT NOW.

  9. I have to admit I'm still smiling about the sword-wielding Cossacks going about their business :-)

The Winged Hussaria were good enough for defense of the gates of Vienna, so they'd be damned good at clearing squatter pussies from parks.
