Carrickfergus

The Clancy Brothers with Tommy Makem

  1. This is one of my all-time favorites, I still cry no matter how many times I hear it. The singer is Liam Clancy, the last surviving brother - he passed about a year ago. There will never be another Irish group like this one.

The song is only 3:50 - the rest is Tommy Makem telling a funny story.

  3. Oh, you are so lucky, Matt!! I wish I had been able to see them in '84, sadly, I had no clue who they were back then.

My father loved this, as -- perhaps -- only a soldier could.

  5. But the boys could also put a smile on your face, too:

  6. Band Played Waltzing Matilda

Matt, that was deeply touching, just really beautiful and heartfelt. Never heard it before.

    The Good Ship Calabar

LOL!! I hadn't heard this one either! When Tom's dad was with us (2007) we watched the reunion tour and after listening to "Isn't It Grand, Boys?" he commented that only the Irish could sing such a funny song about death. And it is, I love it!

  7. Thanks for fixing that, Florrie. I wanted you to see them but I was too worn to a frazzle to remember how to do it right. :)
