Magnificent Maggie

"The lady's not for turning."

Thatcher two years before she became Prime Minister.  Passionate and erudite. As hard as they try, she will not allow the members of the panel to put words
into her mouth or to mis-quote her.  Oh boy, she was brilliant.

For those who are curious, here is the history of the Grunwick dispute.

  1. For some weird reason the video doesn't start at the beginning, just scroll back to the start.

    1. I got about a third of the way through it - very interesting, as is the link on the Grunwick dispute.

Britain had had about enough of the trade unions by Margaret Thatcher's time.

  4. Wow. I watched half last night and just finished the rest. Nearly 40 years past and her words are still as applicable today on economics, immigration, school choice, labor unions. I have never heard an in depth Q&A with Ms. Thatcher, no wonder she was such a giant in politics and so respected. A couple things stood out for me, when she spoke of the basis of belief in the individual and her statement that someone's got to deal with the problems (our debt??? when???). What a brilliant woman and not at all intimidated by the somewhat aggressive journalists. I love that she said what we conservatives believe - that we are NOT entitled to impose our views on others; something that I think many people are - rightfully - very angry about today.

Thanks so much for posting it, Fay. Makes me miss her and her common sense, I was very sad when she passed. I think Carly Fiorina has her fire and intelligence, she's also very adept at explaining her views and solutions. I appreciate the link to the Grunwick dispute, I hadn't heard of it.

One amusing note...at the closing the host said "We'll be back next Monday at 10 past 8." 10 past 8??? lol!!!

"One amusing note...at the closing the host said "We'll be back next Monday at 10 past 8." 10 past 8??? lol!!!" Funny you should mention that, I said to Matt that even if you didn't know the program was on British TV the "back next Monday at ten past eight" would be a dead giveaway. It used to be the norm that programs would start at all manner of times (especially on the beeb where programs didn't have to allow time for ads). It is still not unusual to see programs on both the beeb and commercial channels to have programs start at "twenty to ten" or "a quarter past nine". LOL. Still throws me every time I go back to the UK.
