In celebration of Canada, whose staunchly Israel loving PM proved himself again at the G8 summit, here is some of the Canadian music I love.
And, in honour of our Vancouver Canucks who are going to the Stanley Cup final for the first time in seventeen years, Stompin Tom Connors and The Hockey Game...
Update: Because "We Are All Canucks" a special request for our florrie.
The NDP is upset because the PM did not go with what Washington wanted? That has to be a first!
ReplyDeleteYeah, the Tories are usually accused of being the USA's lapdog.
ReplyDeleteWhatevah! I love PM Harper.
GO CANUCKS GO!
Harper with a majority government and the Canucks winning the Stanley cup. Can it get any better? (Yeah, I know the Canucks still have to play for the thing, but they WILL win!)
ReplyDeleteWe Are All Canucks...
ReplyDeleteThat was a beautiful rendition of Hallelujah. I have a hard time listening to Angel because Sarah did that song for an ad about abused animals and the Humane Society. I just couldn't watch it and now always associate that song with it.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know Oscar Peterson was Canadian!
ReplyDeleteAny chance you could add one of my (and Tom's) personal favorites, by The Tragically Hip?
Grace, too.
Go Harper, and GO CANUCKS! (I'm a Canucks fan by osmosis, LOL!)
ReplyDeleteI'll enjoy these wonderful tunes this evening when I have more time. Thanks Fay!
Hey florrie, that is my very favourite rendition of Hallelujah. I remember when I watched the live broadcast that I had goosebumps. Too bad there aren't any videos available of her performance (I guess they are copyrighted up the ying yang it being the Olympics and all).
ReplyDeleteSorry about Sarah, I should have picked a different song.
The Hip have been added!
Thank you so much! We've seen the Hip in concert more than any other group, we love them. Luckily, they tour allot :-)
ReplyDeleteOh no, don't be sorry for Sarah's song, it is so poignant and her voice is angelic. I just always tear up when I hear it...
{{Magic Fayre}}
Well, we must include Joni.
ReplyDeleteThe Same Situation
I'm enjoying the tunes, especially Robbie Robertson. :X rsrsrsrs
ReplyDelete@flo:
ReplyDeleteI didn't know Oscar Peterson was Canadian!
Good Lord. No? He's one of the few Canadians that I genuinely wish that I had met to thank for his work. A modest man, with absolutely nothing to be modest about, he rose from his hard roots (his father was a CN porter) to become, IMO, simply the best (pace Evans, Monk, Jelly Roll). Sod the critics, he was no burnished honky-tonk player- the man was just brilliant, talent and expression personified. His Hymn to Freedom will survive for all of time- just like Canadian Neil Young's Southern Man, another real human rights standard.
Thanks, Earl.
ReplyDeleteOn this past season of American Idol, Casey Abrams was asked who he would like to play with (from any era). He said Oscar Peterson.

ReplyDeleteThat picks up on a comment by jazz pianiste Diana Krall (a definite talent in her own right ;) )- she admitted that, suddenly, there she was- "playing alongside Oscar Peterson". It was clear that she was rather overwhelmed by the honour.
