For our jet-lagged Magic Fayre

I know you've been on the road all week, Fay, and next week is the same. So here is a little recap of your shows...

Adele sang on DWTS, even though her voice was "knackered"!

And speaking of the Royal Wedding...

More surprises on American Idol. It was bad enough when Casey got sent home..here are the results from this week...

And something blooming from my garden ~

Welcome home, Fay :-)

  1. The magic Fayre is doing her magic in the kitchen right now (her choice). She says, "Lovely, thank you."

Adele's voice when knackered is better than my voice at its best. She rocked it.

As for American Idol, James went as far as he needed to go. I am 54 years old. I am not a heavy metal fan. But I will be watching for James' CD. As Ryan Seacrest said, "This is where Daltry got voted off," or words to that effect. James will do just fine.

  2. Yes, you're right, Matt. I just felt bad because he cried :-(

Give Fay a hug for me, just don't interfere with the dinner preparation!!!

  3. Fay felt that preparing dinner was part of being home, And aren't I the lucky one!

James is young. Of course he wanted to win, but he will sonn realize that winning Amercican Idol is just a stepping stone to where he want to be. But her will get there anyway.

I just hope Halley doesn't win! But of course it is not unusual for lesser tallents to win AI but fail in the long run.

  4. You are the sweetest person on the planet florrie. Thank you so much for this lovely post.

I am not a nervous flyer but four out of the last four flights I was on were delayed. For four different reasons.

Flight One - Toronto to Vancouver
All on board, doors closed, taxing to the runway, safety video playing. Safety video died, FA's begin to get ready to do manual safety demo. Manual demo ditched. Pilot annouces that number one generator is toast. Taxi back to gate. Waitey, waitey, wait. Pilot announces number one generator fixed, taxi out to runway while safety video plays. Safety video dies. Crew do manual demo. Pilot announces fixed number one generator not fixed. Taxi back to gate. Waitey, waitey, wait. Pilot annouces number one generator cannot be fixed, we will commence flight using back up generator. Back up generator requires extra fuel. Wait for fuel truck to arrive and take on extra fuel. Extra fuel on board we finally taxi out and take off! I'm not usually aware of all the wierd noises an aircraft makes when it takes off but I was that day. I knew I was going to die.

    Cie la vie.

  5. Flight Two - Vancouver to Montreal
All on board, doors about to close. Pilot announces that a couple of paralympian atheletes have luggage that needs to be loaded because their flight was late in from Sydney, Australia. Waitey, waitey, wait. Luggage boarded. No mention from pilot that paralympians had to be boarded too. Tickey tock.

Oh, and by the way, I didn't die from delay number one.

  6. But as you can see she didn't.

I am sorry that I did not comment on your lovely garden, Florie. I love it when you show us pictures of you great achievements.

  7. Flight Three - Montreal to Calgary
Flight scheduled to depart at 3.15pm. If I am going to be upgraded to Executive/First Class it won't happen until the flight "closes" 25 minutes before scheduled departure time. Mt name gets called at 2.30pm, a full 45 minutes before departure and I have been upgraded. Woot! (as Lewy would say). Two minutes after scheduled boarding time, agent announces that the flight will be delayed because the pilots are late. But they are on their "way." 45 minues later a First Officer arrives, followed 20 minutes later by a Captain.

  8. Flight Four - Calgary to Vancouver
Uograded again! Yippee! Get on board all systems go. Before the doors are closed ground agent boards plane and is looking for "passenger Smith." No such passenger on board. Pilot announces flight on time all is well. Waitey, waitey, wait. Pilot annouces that "passenger Smith" checked in, checked baggage, but is not on board. Ground crew have to offload all luggage until they find Mr. Smith's bags. This takes forever or a day. After they find his bags they have to reload all the bags they offloaded.

    I give up!

  11. You got two upgrades which is great but the 1st and 4th flights sounded really creepy. I'll be honest, I get nervous just thinking about flying. I hope you didn't get groped on any of those flights (although I bet Canada isn't as ridiculous about security as our TSA).

I'm glad you liked the post, Fay. When I saw Adele was going to sing, I thought of you. Anyhoo, I was looking around YouTube for interesting things to post for you and ended up listening to Cleo Laine for a good hour, lol!!!

And I can relate to fixing dinner even though you just got home. I love to cook as well (in fact, I'm thinking of doing a "comfort food" post as we are both getting over colds and I think DWT can certainly use some comfort as well).

And TY Matt for the kind words about my garden posts. I have er...let's just say several pictures waiting for me to post. :-)

    Night night all!

  12. Florie:

    1) I get myself into trouble when I start looking a YouTube within two hours of when I want to go to bed. I know I will be at least an hour late if I do.

2)Several pictures? Where are they, young lady? We want pictures!

Did you see the post on Annie's blog?

  13. Yes, it was lovely! Oh how I wish I could grow orange and pomegranates, jasmine, and all those other exotics!

But I'm a web-footed Washington native, I love me some gray, drizzly days :-)

  14. Glad you made it home safe and sound Fay.

I used to think flying was exciting. No more - not in a good way, anyway.

  15. Oh, and flo, loved the little cartoon fashion commentary!

    My takeaways:
    - William was smart to ditch the epaulets. SOoo two centuries ago.
    - Kate should have gone with a black choker. Hawt!

  16. Florie ....

Your post of "Adele" and her sexy dusky voice got me to cruising around for some Thelma Houston ... yeah, I know, back in the late 60's and early 70's. She's the songstress who turned my head favorably toward "Disco" ... (I could have missed Blondie otherwise) ... an apostasy for a hard rock fan of the time. It was her jazz links and R&B links that drew me in ... because before "rock" there was R&B and Jazz. Thelma was both.

Those "rock" fans who decried "Disco" so much were bullsh*t rockers ... those who had no knowledge of the roots of it all. And almost any guy is lying who says his feet didn't begin to tap when Debra Harry sang "One Way or another.." ... it's that same primal dusky voice tonality that Adele executes so well. The jazz singer voice.

So yeah, in the 70's and 80's I spent time in myriad clubs, from Jazz to Rock and Disco. Hey, I'd just come home from war and I knew I was immortal!

  17. Need to add, among "dusky" voiced songstresses, there of course, are Kiki Dee and Cher.

Yeah, I know, that pop/disco versus rock conflict thing again. That's crap. Music that moves you is what counts. I still am "moved" by symphony renditions of Chopin's Military Polinaise, as well as Benny Goodman's "Sing Sing Sing" (with Gene Krupa and Harry James soloing as well). I could go on and on ... dusky voiced singers? Stevie Nicks anyone?

  18. There are many disco songs that I like -- in fact some are downright classics (I love "Turn the Beat Around" by Vicki Sue Robinson). My problem with disco is too many record producers let the sound get in the way of the music. I feel the same way about doo wop. And the same can probably be said about rock, too.

I decided to do some comfort food this evening. One of my strange fusion stir-fries, based on Jimmy Dean spicy sausage (it isn't) with Vidalia onion, carrot strips, broccoli, cashew halves some sliced water chestnuts and basmati rice.

I'd planned on mushrooms as well, but forgot until too late.

Not bad at all, but I really was hoping for more spice from the sausage. I used to buy Gwaltney's for spicy stuff, but it is not available in this area any more.

  20. And I'm off again tomorrow morning for another cross Canada foray. See you all next weekend.

  21. I always enjoyed Disco, I didn't get why it was held in such disdain by the punkers and others. Members of the BeeGees have said they felt devastated seeing some of these critics stage "lp dumps" of their albums, trashing their life's work and passion.
