Friday Night Cartoonie Show, Part II
Since we enjoyed one World War II vintage cartoon, let's look another one that is also significant today. This is a Warners Cartoon. I especially like the rendition of "Blues In the Night."
The animators were really artists in those days. Think of the work that went into this without the help of computers!
My only complaint, they always pick on the cats, couldn't they make the antagonist a wolf or something? That always bothered me when I was a kid :-) Being a cat lover, and all...
I agree with your thoughts on the cat, Florrie. The people of the house would be much better off with a cat than a bunch of mice.
I think that the Warner's cartoons were much better than the Disney -- Disney's were too "perfect." Warners lost its touch in the '50's when they started doing "stylized" cartoons. The did not have the texture that the cartoons of the '40's did. A good exapmle of the texture can be seen in Slick Hare . And if you want to add a strong dose of the bizzar, chek out The Great Piggy Bank Robbery.
No wonder our generation turned out the way it did.
I see what you mean about the texture, Matt, it makes a big difference. I hadn't seen Slick Hare before, I loved all the cameos and Bugs dancing the Samba, lol!
There is one scene missing from this copy of Slick Hare. Laurel and Hardy were washing dishes. I guess that scene was cut due to a disagreement with their estates.

LOL, yes, between the cartoons and the musicals...
