British Jazz (no, it's not an oxymoron)



Imagine our surprise when floranista and I discovered that we were both Cleo Laine fans. And we both had seen her live, in concert!

Cleo's husband, the great jazz musician, Johnny Dankworth, died this weekend. RIP Sir John.

    She has a very pure, distinctive, voice. Once you have heard her, you will never mistake her for anyone else.

    Cleo and Johnny were the bomb! (back in the day).

    Her voice reminds me of Nina Simone's. Different phrasing and style, but a similar tone.

    Wow, that brings back memories, what a unique voice. I saw her in Seattle in the early 80's.
