No apologies needed, lady red. I don't think I'm the only one here who holds Trump in scant regard and I'm reasonably sure he will never be our nominee. He *is* entertaining though!
Aridog, I agree. If I was only convinced of his sincerity, I would be on board. But the man was a democrat, supported democrats both ideologically and financially. He was for no limits on abortion, now he's pro life. He is on the record for supporting single-payer health care. I don't know if he is a gas-bag or has had a total about face in his political beliefs. Either way, I'm not convinced he would follow through with his rhetoric.
It also worries me that he is even more thin-skinned than Obama; I think that character flaw is an increasingly dangerous one for a US president who must juggle world policies very delicately and diplomatically. So much is at stake.
Trump really IS thin skinned, especially anywhere women are concerned..."know yo place, womanz" is his under lying theme it seems to me. Just make a list of his 2014 & 2015 remarks vis a vis women. His handlers hired a pretty and bright young woman as spox to mollify that trait....I give her no more than 90 days. As for being a Democrat previously or a Republican now (he's all Trump, period) ...a shape shifter just as ALMOST ALL Wall Street/Real Estate Moguls are...its all about the money and all about THEM. It's what they do and have always done...its part of the system that has made us comfortable. Single Payer for you, not for him is his idea...e.g., he's rich and can just go pay for whatever care he wants or needs. As for his ability to follow through on his rather vague proposals...I doubt he could. He's used to dictating terms to others, but has n-e-v-e-r waded in to the political morass of senior bureaucracy (except perhaps when he was some pols favorite son of the day), of either party's ilk, let alone to foreign leaders who aren't concerned about being part of some deal of his, because they have their own agendas....and if he tried to dictate to them they can and will just get up walk away and flip him the bird. Their home folks will always love them for flipping off Uncle Sam. Americans might find it crude and dangerous. For example, I think he'd last maybe 2-3 minutes with Vlad Putin in any negotiation where he tried to dictate terms. Beyond that, I really doubt he could name two cities where ISIS is in control & where they are... more like "fetch me that info, boy!" is the plan.
In short, I doubt he could follow through on his rhetoric due to shear lack of experience in the new arena and some narcissism thrown in for good measure. BUT his bombast is popular and I even like some of it...but I also have worked in the belly of government and DOD and know he's a fresh chicken waiting to be plucked. Good luck to us...if he wins both the nomination and the job as POTUS, he'd better have a 70+% minimum tally or he'll be wholly impotent...and still impotent on many issues he can't yet fathom.
All that said, I DO think he means well. I kind of like him, and would enjoy lunch and a conversation with him. I just don't know if he really has any idea of what he's trying to achieve. The senior bureaucracy is NOT like business partners...nor are the 535 folks in Congress....who are more like herding cats.
I love how he keeps the Pub elite spinning like tops (and the progs too!). Even if has the heart of a democrat and is nearly as prickly and ego-maniacal as Barry, he'd STILL be better than ¡Yeb! or Rubio. (IMHO).
Here's where I love Trump. He was giving a talk yesterday or today and started getting heckled by a BLM guy. He said "Get him out, get him the hell out."
Yay! Now if I could just be convinced he'd be a halfway decent president...like lady red, I SO enjoy seeing the out-of-touch beltway elites pontificating and being entirely wrong about Trump. Week after glorious week.

Let's see him try that with a Congressional critic? I rather doubt either is own folks could or the Congressional Sergeant at Arms would comply with that request.
I can totally see Trump as a headbanger.
ReplyDeleteThing is, whaddya' call that song now? Heritage Metal?
Yes, I can see him as a headbanger too.

I'd not dismiss Trump just yet. The spirit of that song is what he represents to a lot of Americans...."we're not gonna take it anymore!"

florrie, you're very right about Trump being thin skinned, and that's a worry.
DeleteTrump is at his best when he is the troll.
Trump is at his worst when he feeds the other trolls.
