Johnny Loves June
An undated note from Johnny Cash to his wife June, wherein he mentions two of their songs: "the ring of fire" from the song Ring of Fire and "hotter than a pepper sprout" from the song Jackson.
That's really nice June. You've got a way with words and a way with me as well.
The fire and excitement may be gone now that we don't go out there and sing them anymore, but the ring of fire still burns around you and I, keeping our love hotter than a pepper sprout.
Luther, I don't see how most of the people you named would be anywhere near as bad as Obama. Do they have faults? Yes, of course. But are they clueless egotistical nimrods who hate the country? Not by any stretch of the imagination. Most of them feel the best thing to do is get the government out of the way, not bypass Congress and rule by Executive Decree, er, Order.
All, forgive my momentary depression. I really should give up on attempting to be an informed citizen as it only causes me grief.
Matt, Lewy, I know you're right about anyone being better than the JEM. I guess I expect too much from our political class.
Fay, one on one I'm sure I would likely trust all those I mentioned. Perhaps it was Bachman's blooper about vaccines that pushed me over the edge.
I just overreacted is all. Overwhelmed by the problems this country faces, along with worrying about Israel, Britain, hell, throw in western civilization in general for that matter.
The thing to remember is that a conservative Republican is going to have any gaffe amplified, magnified, and reported over and over so any hermit in a cave is well aware of it, whereas a Democrat is going to be given cover and could be putting the country's pedal to the metal towards a cliff and the press will remain silent as long as it possibly can. If the coverage were balanced, the Republicans would not look so bad.
Look at McCain. Since he is a Rino, the press normally gives him cover -- but when he was the Republican candidate for President, he all of a sudden could do nothing right.
Luther, I totally empathize with your feelings. It's become almost impossible to tell one lying, self-serving politician from another.
I'm not thrilled with the current crop of Repubs either. At all. Bleh.
I agree with lewy; I'd vote for a syphilitic camel over Obama. The problem is, I'm also inclined to vote for a syphilitic camel over Romney, Perry, or Bachmann (yeah, her stupid comment about HPV vaccine causing retardation made me want to strangle her. How utterly idiotic!).
Doom and gloom. Just call me Eeyore.
As far as trust? Bobby Jindal. He's brilliant, and he's a down-to-earth problem solver. Jindal is exactly who we need in the White House, IMHO. But alas, he's actually dedicated to running his own state, and isn't interested in national fame and glory.
Don't worry, any Republican who looks good to you today will undergo an MSM Makeover and you will end up hating his guts. It's what the MSM does.
When my son was in high school, he said he could not understand voting for someone with whom he did not agree with 100%. That is impossible. It will never happen. Just becauselink Hollywood has led us to believe that beautiful women have to weigh 72 pounds does not mean we fall for the trap of expecting our politicians to be absolutely perfect.
I like the way Rush Limbaugh looks at it. You can never achieve perfection, but you can achieve excellence. Good people have good people around them. That will smooth out the bumps. There must be someone in that crowd with whom you agree with on most issues.
If that is Bobby Jindal, then great. I have said many times that we start expecting to have our candidates way to early. Remember that Jimmy Carter started running in December, 1974. The JEM started running in 2008 -- if not earlier. John McCain was anointed by the MSM way in advance, too.
Decide what you want to see in the candidate and start looking for who most closely matches it. Don't let him be torn down by the people who do not want to see a great Republican candidate.
Here is the transcript of the note:
ReplyDelete"Hey June,

Love John"
She was what he needed. And he probably was what she needed as well. A love story come true.
ReplyDeleteThat is just lovely, I'm so glad you posted a copy of it, Fay!
ReplyDeleteOne of the greatest love stories of our time. *sigh* The note is really neat, Fay. :)
ReplyDeleteForgive me, please, for the major off topic.
ReplyDeleteI'm just so full of news of the day, or week, or month I have to say something.
I don't trust Rommey, nor Perry, and now, especially Bachman to speak for me. Nor, Palin either.
I'm not sure any one of them would be an improvement upon the JEM.
Platitudes not accepted as rational discourse.
Or some damn thing. I'd like to be spoken to as an adult, for once, from our politicians. Slim chance.
No forgiveness needed Luther. Anyone you would trust?
ReplyDeleteLuther, I don't see how most of the people you named would be anywhere near as bad as Obama. Do they have faults? Yes, of course. ReplyDeleteLuther - d00d - I totally get where you're coming from.
ReplyDeleteI thought they were all swell. And then they had to go and do it.
They had to open their mouths. ;)
That's where all the politico's lose me - every time.
Thing is, Matt's right. As Glenn Reynolds has put it so eloquently, I'd vote for a syphilitic camel over Obama.
I have a post on Palin I'm working on - ah, what the heck, I'll just post the link in a separate thread...
