Multiple Terrorist Attacks In Israel

At least six are dead and dozens are injured in three coordinated terrorist attacks in southern Israel.

Authorities are calling for Israeli to donate blood at local MDA stations across the country. The area has been declared a closed military area and the IDF spokesman has asked people to keep away.

This is a horrific and cowardly attack. I hope the IDF extracts a heavy price, and takes no prisoners. My heart is with the people of Israel on this sad day.

Update: Our friend Annie has more here.

  1. Hi Lady Red, thanks for posting this. I'm updating my post as more details come in. The latest details are on top. The terrorists had the chutzpah to open fire during the Chief of Staff's briefing a short while ago, and seriously injured another soldier. It's all still ongoing.

I can't remember a day like this for a long time, where one attack ran into another and then another. We still have no idea who the family is who were killed. It's simply dreadful. :(

  2. Oh annie, I'm so sorry. You and your family are in my prayers, and all of Israel.

I didn't know that the attacks are still ongoing.

  3. The area is exactly where my younger son served in the IDF. He was a "spotter" at the border and he was forever complaining about the open border and the mostly fruitless chases after smugglers and terrorists. So the border is finally being built but much too slowly.

I'm not sure if the attacks are still ongoing after that last shooting during the CoS briefing, but the IDF won't declare "case closed" until they are absolutely certain that all the terrorists have been killed or have left the area. Until then the whole area has been declared a "closed military zone" - i.e. no civilians in or out.

Meanwhile the IDF has been busy bombing Gaza and has killed 6 terrorists, including 2 senior Hamas-niks. I hope they get a whole lot more before the night is done.

  4. So, one of the mortars was fired from within Egypt.

Egypt will become more unstable in the near future, not less. I was reading Spengler - he's posting at PJM - the Egyptian central bank has enough foreign exchange (hard currency) to buy food for maybe another six months - Egypt imports half its caloric intake.

Specifically the Egyptian army knows that its situation is not stable or sustainable.

Israel had some interest in respecting Egyptian sovereignty when Mubarak kept the Jew-hate there to a dull roar, or at least its lethal expression.

If Obama wants to spend billions on the Egyptian army its going to be a tough sell, especially when the west will be called on to donate billions to keep Egyptians fed within a year.

I think the Egyptians may find Israel a little less restrained when it comes to cross border retaliation.

  5. Terrible, I'm just glad that annie and her family are safe.

I can't even begin to express my disgust (again) at how these barbaric terrorist attacks are reported by the media. An AP report I read today called the terrorists "assailants".

    WTF???

  6. Besides remembering Israel in our prayers, we should also remember Israel at the ballot box in 2012.

  7. Annie, my sympathies for Israel and those killed by these barbaric monsters.

So much here, and for Israel, hinges on 2012. The fate of the world, really, depends on America gaining its senses.

I hate sounding like a doomer. But really, how much further can events degenerate before the tipping point is reached.

  8. There's an intense missile onslaught going on in the south at the moment. I use the word "south" very loosely because some of those towns are a bare 40 minute drive from me, right in the center of Israel. My dad's sister lives in one of those towns, and another sister is visiting from NY. They are both a little doolally. I hope they know what to do in case of attack. My aunt is very stoic. In the Gaza war, whenever there was an attack she "closed the window". As if that's going to help!

    Gotta laugh though...

  9. Hamas is stuck on stupid. Geopolitical weather conditions have seldom been more favorable. Hamas will get what's coming to them.

Mubarak is gone. Assad is on the ropes - I mean is Obama going to press the Israelis to make peace with someone who they have already said should step down? Hizballah gets supplied thru Syria which has its hands full. Britain is consumed by the Murdoch scandal and their own homegrown intafadah - and the Guardian is slowly going broke, BTW... (not quick enough though). Stock market is melting down and gold is going through the roof as I type this. The Israeli left is pre-occupied with economic concerns (not without some justification, perhaps).

As I get older I get more reflective when I say things like what I'm about to say. I take no joy in it.

But there's never been a better time for a massively disproportionate response. I believe it would be in the interests of overall stability longer term. Hopefully the Israeli leadership will seize the initiative.

  10. From your mouth to our gov't's ears Lewy.

  11. @lewy:

I concur. Spengler's analysis suggests massive near-term Egyptian unrest, along with (to your point) the opportunity for the IL government to effect long-term security solutions in the absence of any coherent international response. I predict a bloodbath along IL's borders with Egypt- the MB will not miss the opportunity to direct the fellahin's rage towards IL.

And, above all, keep focused on Jews with Hydrocarbons (TM)- the ME game-changer IMO.

  12. Lewy sez ...

... there's never been a better time for a massively disproportionate response.

Teh legendary Bodhidharma & Dazu Huike go to Israel, bring Zen and Seonmudo to join on Krav Maga & other IDF goodies... :D

..chaos ensues, Hamas-niks unhappy, maybe disappeared. So sad. Not.
