Alex Burrows: NHL Troll FTW

It was the waiting between Game One and Game Two that was the worst. Really, how many different ways was the American sports media going to completely blow out of proportion a minor face washing incident that resulted in the Canucks' Alexandre Burrows' mouth closing on the fully-gloved finger of the Bruins' Patrice Bergeron? "Bite-Gate," says ESPN. Seriously.

Let's leave aside the fact that one Bruin cross-checked the Canucks' Dan Hamhuis in the head while he was on the ice on bended knee in extreme pain. In fact, let's not even talk about that. I'm used to the extreme East Coast bias in NHL coverage, but, damn, this is just too much.

So, Burrows, who NBC analyst Mike Milbury stated "should not be playing" (meaning, he should have been suspended), goes on to the ice and scores the first goal of Game Two. The Bruins came back, and took a 2-1 lead deep into the third, until Daniel Sedin woke up and tied it brilliantly.

Then came sudden-death overtime. All 11 seconds of it before Alexandre "U Mad Bro?" Burrows beat the Bruins' captain, Lurch from the Addams Family, like all 7 feet of him doesn't exist, while making their goalie look like a fool.

The other big news: the return of Manny Malhotra after a scary eye injury.

Canucks in six.

  1. What pissed me off about the bite was that hardly anyone asked "What the f&%$ was Bergeron's finger doing in Burrows' mouth to begin with? Add to that the fact that Bergeron was, at the same time, pushing up on Burrow's jaw. It looked to me like he was daring, if not forcing, Burrows to bite so that Bergeron could pitch a fit.

And did you like the call in the game last night when the officials called a penalty on the Canucks for something the officials had already decided they would not call?

I think that having the Canucks win 11 seconds in overtime was a real slap in the face to Boston. To get them all psyched during the intermission and then to loose after barely getting on the ice must have really deflated them.

I have to say, though, that I do kinda like Thomas. He is good. I just want Luongo to be better.

  5. But then you would have to put up with dogs like that game tonight (8-1 Boston!!!!) The Canucks are good for at least one, if not two, games like that each series.
