This has been one of the strangest weeks of my life. On a world wide scale it has been awful. Nothing I can say will add anything to what we already know is the dreadful mess that is Japan. Their suffering has been in our hearts and prayers.
On a personal level this has been one of the best weeks of my life. On Saturday we drove down to Seattle so that I could attend my future "step-daughter" in laws Wedding Shower and Matt could get measured for his Tux. It was a lovely time, Matt's ex wife and I got on like a house on fire. Matt spent the day with his son and then Matt and I went out for a lovely dinner.
We had brunch the next day with Matt's son and his fiance then we swung by Nordstrom's where I found the perfect pair of shoes for the wedding.
On Monday Matt took the college entrance English exam to enable him to go back to school (they don't recognize any qualifications more than 4 years old, kind of a problem when you graduated in 1974!) He passed the exam with a perfect score of 120 out of 120.
On Wednesday I received a letter from my employer which read, in part:
"In recognition of your exceptional personal performance in 2010, I am pleased to.."
and then the letter announced the great gift I had been awarded.
On Wednesday night I was a guest in an Executive Suite for the Canucks hockey game.
Today, Matt took the College Math entrance exam.
Yup, you guessed it, he got 100%. The exam invigilator said she has never seen anyone get 100%.
We are truly blessed.
Congratulations to the both of you. A magnificent time you are having. Take notes, so as to fill us in later.
ReplyDeleteThank you Luther. We are for sure taking note of how blessed we are.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Matt on his test scores! Well done baby x
ReplyDeleteI don't know if my scores were because I am smart or because standards are so low now!
ReplyDeleteI think the standards are undoubtedly lower than they were when we attended school. However, attaining 100% is still exceptional.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations both of you!
ReplyDeleteI sure don't have the guts to take tests any more... I still get bad dreams about taking exams.

Sounds like a sex toy to me. ;)
Oh, it's so nice to hear such wonderful news! Matt, I'm so excited that you're going back to school! You knocked the entrance exams out of the park! What kind of classes are you planning to take? Will you start in the summer, or the fall? I'm so nosy, aren't I? I'm very, very happy for you both!
ReplyDeleteFay, it's a blessing that you and Matt's ex get along so well. It will have such positive repercussions for your son and DIL, and any future grandbabies.
Now tell us about the shoes! :D
An executive suite and a hockey game? WOW. You rock, girl! You all really have had a wonderful week! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteFlorrie's birthday, Magic Fayre is recognized for her excellence, Matt is going back to school, a wedding is in the offing, Annie has a new grandbaby, Mr. and Mrs. lewy have new digs...just another busy, happy week for the TCKT family. :)
I am going to study to be a Dispensing Optician! It is a two year program. After the first year I can do glasses. After the second I can do contacts.
ReplyDeleteGood weeks for the fine folks at the table make it easier for us to face the rest of the stuff that's going on.
Matt, that is AWESOME! The health care field is a great choice, IMO. I hope you enjoy your studies as much as Noah and I do (and by "enjoy" I mean: 90% OMG!!! and 10% fun). ;))
ReplyDeleteI think we all needed a wheelbarrow-full of good news. What's been happening in the world the past few weeks is horrific to the point of speechlessness.
Yeah, there are some depressing things out there. I think it is about time for another Bugs Bunny Cartoony.
ReplyDeleteWow, it's great to hear some positive news. How nice to get well-deserved recognition from your employer, Fay. Matt's got looks AND brains, I'm not surprised he aced the tests. Perhaps most amazing, though, is getting along with the ex! That will make everything run much more smoothly, eh?
ReplyDeleteYou two have been through some tough times; I'm really happy that things are so good now.
What fantastic news from the MattM's! Congratulations to you both on the forthcoming marriage of your son/stepson. And huge congrats to Matt on his test scores! And for the courage to go back to school at this stage of your life. You have given me inspiration.
ReplyDeleteI too think about going back to school (not sure what I would like to study; so many things interest me) but I quail at the thought of tests, let alone boring stuff like homework and term papers. Between you and Lady Red you put me to shame. I really should get my act together.
I'm delighted to read of everyone else's good news here. It's such a nice change to read happy news for a change. Long may the good times continue.

LOL lewy, now I'll never hear that word again without remembering your comment!!!
"Matt's got looks AND brains" :X
ReplyDeleteNow tell us about the shoes!
ReplyDeleteHere ya go lady red, the shoes!
Thanks all for your lovely words and good wishes. I felt a little self-indulgent after I posted this but I'm glad that the sharing of good news has brightened the day a little.
ReplyDeleteOooh, very elegant shoes, Fay. You have such style.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you shared it, sometimes I can't bear to listen to more bad news, you know??
Plus I like to hear the latest from y'all (as RIP Ford would say :-)
hmmm, my smiley face got Casey-slammed...
ReplyDeleteflorrie #18, thanks {{{{{florrie}}}}}
ReplyDeleteWhat does "Casey-slammed" mean please?
ReplyDeleteHe's an Australian kid that body-slammed a bully who had been punching and taunting him, the video went viral. Just google 'Casey Heynes'.
ReplyDeleteOh, I adore the shoes Fay! You'll look lovely for the wedding! :)
ReplyDeleteHere is an interview with Casey, which aired on Australia's 'A Current Affair' this past weekend.
ReplyDeleteThe kid has had a Hell of a life.
