Sorry for the flippant threadline, it is really out of place, given the story. But I just could not help myself! My alternate threadline was 'Beginning Of Mexican Intifada?'
US Border Patrol Agent shoots and kills Mexican teenager.
As is so often the case, there is some conflicting information, but it seems the poor kid is dead, and the FBI is investigating.
I'm sure The Messiah is pissed at this, too. What did that Border Patrol Agent think he was supposed to do, protect his country or something?
ReplyDeleteDon't worry, we will be hearing angry words from the White House about this.
Of course any bit of news from the Guardian should be viewed with a jaundiced eye. But it is odd to me that the only ones held to a perfect standard are on the US side, well, not odd, that's the way it always is. And see... I don't know why Obama should even be brought up, except that Obama will bring it up most likely, showing his ignorance of the Office. No President's name should ever come up in this type of situation. They do have more important things to worry about. IMHO.
ReplyDeleteWent out for a smoke after that last comment. Realized said comment could be construed as negative to LR and RMM. Not my intention at all.
ReplyDeleteAlso thought about Alison... if you're reading this, I hope you're doing okay.

ReplyDeleteLuther, I guess you never heard about the Pig War. The US almost got in a shooting war with Vancouver (which wasn't even part of Canada at the time).
On June 15, 1859, exactly thirteen years after the adoption of the Oregon Treaty, the ambiguity led to direct conflict. Lyman Cutlar, an American farmer who had moved onto the island claiming rights to live there under the United States' Donation Land Claim Act (1850), shot and killed a large black pig rooting in his garden.
...
In September, U.S. President James Buchanan sent General Winfield Scott to negotiate with Governor Douglas and resolve the growing crisis.
Granted, if Obama gets involved, that's some dumb shit. But dumber shit's happened.
(I was going to do a post at some point on the Pig War. I don't even know how I stumbled on this link any more, but I blame Jourdan, because his posts often send me on wild wiki searches. Read the whole thing - I like how Kaiser Wilhelm gets involved...)
Oh, and the June 15 anniversary of the Pig Incident is coming up! TCKT should have a Canadian/American pig roast to celebrate!
ReplyDeleteIt'll be a complete re-enactment - US and Canada will end up friends, and the pig will end up dead! Awesome!
It wasn't just the Guardian, the news was all over - I linked the Guardian because it was the clearest story
ReplyDeleteSorry, DwT. As I said, no aspersions intended.
ReplyDeleteLewy, I couldn't have told you a thing about it as I knew of the pig war so long ago and had forgotten all about it. But, right, a small incident that loomed large in a Presidents focus. But given the gravity of the 'pig war' a direct analogy to the above incident is rather strained, unless one considers that La Raza and such would love to have such incidents carry as much weight as that black pig.
Oh, the pig roast sounds great! Maybe next year. I digress but at a couple of my parties I have dug a pit and roasted a whole pig. Quite delicious if I do say so myself.
Luther, don't worry about it, I caught no aspersions any more than you cast them.
ReplyDeleteThanks, DwT. I am unthinking at times, IOW's run off at the mouth, don't want to be here.
