  1. Congratulations to the scientists at Cambridge. I can't think of a more terrifying medical situation. This is a small but significant step to improve their quality of life, choices and care.

  2. Amazing sort of solution, isn't it? It sounds like the kind of thing a kid would come up with - look at pictures of the brain and ask the person questions....very cool.
    And hi alison!

  3. Of course -- this suggests that Terri Schiavo was murdered.

After these few few years, one hesitates to reapproach her death -- and her suffering.

  4. Geeze...yeah, Terry Schiavo. About the only good thing I can think of to do with her death is that at least she is free of that murderer now. He was always trying to kill her off.

  6. Terry Schiavo was the first person I thought of when I read this article. :(

  7. From memory she was in an awful state with no quality of life. Who knows what decision she would have taken. I only know that if that ever happens to me I've made provisions and I don't want to be left in care. I would want out. Immediately. If this helps patients make such awful decisions and takes away the dreadful circumstances their families face then that's a good thing whatever they choose. Though hopefully we will be able to find a way to improve their quality of life if they want to stay with us.

I must admit I had no idea her husband had tried to murder her aswell though. Is that how she wound up in that accident? Dear God.

  8. Yep alison, it just went on and on with him. Very ugly. I don't even know how many attempts he made to kill her. Nurse witnessed a lot of it. Michael Schiavo: "When is that b*tch gonna die?"
