I'm alternately blubbering and smiling. Class all the way, from their outfits to their skating, from their skating journey together, to their unabashed joy at winning.
Watch them skate then watch them singing their anthem. This truly is what the Olympic ideal is meant to be.
Lady Red...Heh heh...not too tough tonight...Canada up 4-0 over Germany so far. And, whoa...I'd never want to be dfending asinst a shot by Shea Weber!! Daaaamn!! THAT ain't pond hockey!
Canada now 6-1 over Germany, break time...whoops make that 7-1.
To be fair, I could accept "Ski Cross" as a skiing sport if they got rid of the skateboard mall rat faux terrain crap at the start (what no railings as well?!) and the faux terain contructs (2x4's and plywood?) down the hill that are designed to make big air, not race speed. Build rollers and bumps of dirt and snow so the racers have to actually use ski technique to reduce air time (air time is s-l-o-w)..which I don't like in Alpine races either, where they occur...just dumb. In ski cross when you see racers popping "snow plows" to check their speed to avoid too much air, say hey, is it a race or Circ du Soliel?
Now add to that 37 year old Daron Rahlves now competing in X-games and it is just sad to me...Rahlves is one of the best speed event skiers the US ever produced...he won the Hannenkamm downhill for g-d's sake, one of only two Americans to ever do so...and the first in 40+ years since Buddy Werner.
I understand his interest in contiuing to compete and not hold back younger skiers on the US Alpine team...but I'd dearly love to have seen him at Whistler anyway....een if he skied for Lower Slobovia or something.
Gold for a class act.

And their team mates and training partners from the US won the Silver. It just doesn't get any better than this for ice dance.
ReplyDeleteThe Israelies placed tenth. Not a bad show, I don't think.
