Agggggh! Saints my shiney Heiny! They won anyway, thanks to a half dozen turner overs, some forced, a couple unforced, that brought the game to a tie....then a coin toss for the over time first go at it. Game over.
Didn't hurt them that an un-reviewed call of a Saints touchdown was in error, IMO, as the receiver's knee was obviously down prior to his extending his arm in to the edge of the end zone...no matter as properly called it would have been 1st and goal at the 1 yard line. Plus referee calls are always subjective and part of the game. Without the turnovers, it woulnd't have mattered.
This game was the "end" as far as my vested interests go, the Super Bowl is anti-climax since I dont' care who wins, so long as it's a good close game. If I was a betting man, it'd be on the Colts.
Judging just from Favre's wifes' face, by the 4th quarter, plus daugher and mother IIRC, my guess is that her first words to Brett with be no damn more, no, please....go be wuarterbacks coach maybe, no more pads no more games.
In other sports I watched, on live feedes from ORF/Eurovision, there were the Hahnenkamm Races in Austria, the toughest of all World Cup ski races....even top ten finishes being valued by racers equal to or better than Olympic medals. A win in either disciple, or the "old school" combination (Kombi), is their super Bowl x 10.
A "nice" part of the Hahnenkamm Salolom event was the first ever Wrold Cup win by a young German racers, the sone of two previous top ten World Cup racers...plus the Downhill win by the "Brett Favre" of Downhill racing...35 years old, antique in the sport...in his case following a broken rib and concussion following a crash a month ago.
All in all, a good sports weekend, even if virtual.
I didn't watch the game but heard the Saints are now the new Raiders - that they played pretty dirty and poor Favre took a lot of hits - many of them late. Also that the Vikings outplayed the Saints, but the dirty tactics combined with a touchdown that should have been reviewed ended it.
I'm hoarse from cheering (yelling, really :-); at least it was a nail-biter of a game.
ReplyDeleteThe Vikes handed it to NO but I won't have a hard time cheering them on in two weeks.

Good to see you, Aridog!
ReplyDeleteYes, I thought the officiating was leaning towards not antagonizing the home crowd - particularly the pass interference for that uncatchable ball :-(
The Vikings should have protected Brett better and they kept letting NO back in the game with all those turnovers. pffft
Just no excuse for dropping the ball during a hand-off.
But then again, at least it was a game full of emotion and close all the way...
Superbowl then Olympics, it doesn't get much better than that :-)
Yes, but did you see the woman who split her lycra pants just before she jumped on her bobsled?
ReplyDeletetee hee
