Fay, thanks, that was wonderful. I was inspired to read more about Dino - he was just a bit before my time. My parents would love to watch the Dean Martin celebrity roasts; they would howl with laughter. Sadly I was a surly adolescent at that point in my life and kinda tuned it out. I should go back and watch some; all of those people were immensely talented.
He was before my time too, lewy, but I did watch those Dean Martin roasts. In fact we've been thinking of buying them, they've been released recently as a boxed set of 8-tracks...er, I mean CDs ;-) All the greats were there and they were truly hilarious - unlike the current roasts which seem to consist of one-upmanship a la The Aristocrats.
I'm going to be honest with you. I know that commercial very well, I didn't realize it was the Sex Pistols. But the second it comes on, we switch the channel because it's so frickin' irritating! Seriously!
I couldn't resist. I love Gahan Wilson, when I read your words, it was the first thing that came to mind. He did 2 of those, same theme with different participants. I made a colored pencil drawing of the other one for Tom 20+ years ago. It's hanging above the john in our mud room bathroom :-)
Wonderful selections Fay! Dino brings teh sex-ay! He was a heartthrob to several generations, wasn't he? I've always loved Sam Cooke and John Hiatt. Listening to the three back-to-back was perfect on this cold, dreary Ozarks morning...
Rod Stewart said he idolised Sam, and oh boy can you ever hear Sam's influence on Rod in this song.
ReplyDeleteDino sways, and rocks, and defines cool, and is suave, and debonair, and hip. Plus he sings good, LOL.

DeleteOK, for those Frank Sinatra fans - have you caught the latest Acura commercial?
DeleteIt features a cover of My Way, which Frank first recorded.
Only the cover is sung by Sid Vicious, backed by the Sex Pistols.
For those who are curious...
So it's 2014 and even the Sex Pistols are commercialized.
Is nothing sacred?!

Brilliant poster florrie!
DeleteIf the Sex Pistols version is not to your taste florrie, how about the Yiddish version tehe :)
Thank you, Miz Fay! It got started as Tom has a wicked sense of humor and I'd often respond with "Is nothing sacred?".
DeleteOMG, talk about polar opposites! The Barry sisters are ok, I like how they roll their "Rs". But lets just all agree that The Chairman did it best ;-)
DeleteOops. Guess I better not call him The Chairman.
The Sinatras also didn't like Phil Hartman spoofing Frank but his impersonation was the best ever!
Canadians not allowed to view the video you linked :(
DeleteJust perfect for a mellow night. These numbers were all new to me, great choices, Fay!
