On the Subject of Artists Who Hated the Song They Were Told to Record

The Lemon Pipers were a psychedelic band. They managed to get a contract with Buddha Records, mainly known for their teeny-bopper schlock. The label gave them a song to record. The group hated it. They were told "Record it, or you contract is history." They recorded it

  1. I wonder - did they have to tour behind it?

I live in a section of town where the clubs are. A waste, because the music now is too loud, which just means I'm too old.

But I saw that Concrete Blond is coming to town, and they are still playing Joey, which they recorded in 1990.

I loved that song; it had heavy airplay at a time when I was numb from therapeutically effective doses of Prozac and weed in the wake of my failed first marriage. It brought me a step closer to feeling the anger and pain that I was otherwise succeeding in keeping at a safe distance.

I still love that song. But one has to wonder whether Concrete Blond still does after playing it for the last twenty two years.

I am SO old this passage is a foreign language to me.

      How sad is that?

  3. Prozac. Antidepressant. Selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitor - an SSRI.

    Weed - marijuana.

In combination you can have your pretty young wife leave your sorry ass and you will pretty much not care.

    1. LOL lewy, I didn't mean I was so old that didn't know what those substances were. I meant I was so old that they weren't available to my generation LOL.

    2. It struck me as possible that you'd not encountered Prozac - not everyone has.

Weed, however... oh, it was around in your time, Fay. You just weren't hanging with the right crowd. ;)

[My wife went through high school without once encountering weed. The probability that there was no weed at her high school in the early 80's in Hawaii is precisely zero. In fact weed at her high school at that time has been attested to in print. By the President of the United States, no less... no joke.]

Braised bacon, house cured. Nice little snack on a Friday night with the missus.

[Yes, I'm blogging on my laptop. She's got her Kindle. She's reading The Night Circus after I recommended it to her. It's awesome.]

  7. Thanks for the book recommendation! Once I get this enormous, gargantuan pile of textbooks committed to memory, I'll read it...for now it goes on my wish list. :)

Mmm,that bacon looks heavenly. Mmm. Mmm.

I don't remember the group "The Lemon Pipers" at all, but I do remember the song "Green Tambourine" was played every five minutes on the radio. It's funny that they didn't want to record it (I can't say I blame them).
