Colour Me Shocked!

The ten worst countries in the world for women to live.

Quick! Find the connection!!!

1. Chad
2. Afganistan
3. Yemen
4. Democratic Republic of Congo
5. Mali
6. Solomon Islands
7. Niger
8. Pakistan
9. Ethiopia
10. Sudan

To be fair, and much to my suprise, two of these shitholes are over 90% Christian:

The DRC and the Solomon Islands.

I suspect it's just as awful to live in either of those places because of the poverty. Gender doesn't count.

  1. WAIT! Let me guess. They all have high population concentrations of Jehovah's Witnesses.

    Am I in the ballpark?

I can't explain the Solomon Islands, but the DRC is in the middle of what is basically three civil wars and the issues from Rwanda spilled over into their lap. Plus, it just sucks generally due to poverty (caused by non-stop conflict), famine, disease, and the fact that their "Christianity" is heavily tinged with Shamanism (which is not the cutesy pseudo-Native stuff revered in the US) and their tribal affiliations.

The DRC isn't just one of the worst places in the world for women to live - it's one of the worst places in the world for humans to live.

  2. An example of African shamanism merging with so-called Christianity:

Cannibalism is actually fairly common in certain African shamanistic beliefs. Not that it is something that is common in Africa - but it is not unheard of in certain areas among certain people.

It is thought that a person can absorb the essence of the person you eat, or if you want them not to come back - either as a ghost or reincarnated.

These are the kinds of things one researches when they are planning on moving to Africa.

  3. Lovely little shitholes, aren't they? I can't imagine what most of them have in common...hmmm...

AFW, I think I'll pass on the African soup. I had a big lunch, and I don't mind sharing my space with a ghost or two.
