Well, one of the finalists for the Big Tex Deep-Fried Foods prize at this years Texas State Fair, is deep-fried beer. No, really.
Perhaps that dish as a main course, then a few of my massively rum-soaked mincement cookies as dessert (the mincemeat is already soaking in the fridge).
Just be sure you have nowhere to drive for a few hours after.
Just another reason to love Texan :-)
ReplyDeleteAlthough I'm not a beer fan, it sounds very inventive to me, good for him! We'll have to get RIP Ford's opinion on this...
Hey florrie, I just posted the link on his FB page!
ReplyDeleteIt seems like the beer would be really hot. Boiling, even. Ouch!
ReplyDeleteWe'll let RIP Ford try it out first...;)
Would it be hotter than deep fried butter do you think?
ReplyDelete:D
Nothing on Earth can be better than the wonderfullness that is a deep fried twinkie. NOTHING.
ReplyDeleteAlso, strawberry trifles. Not fried, I'm a purist on that one. At one of AFG's assignments there was a Welsh lady (the one we named my daughter after) who introduced me to proper British trifles. I can't make them anywhere near as delicious as she did. I think you have to talk to and coax the ingredients with the right accent and I just can't pull it off.
Best. Dessert. Ever. I'm salivating in a truly Pavlovian manner at this point. My poor computer...
Hmmm. I think I know an English lady who makes nice trifles.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to try this out, unfortunately I don't know if I'm going to make it up to Dallas for the Fair this year.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting though.
I bet Fay makes an awesome trifle!
ReplyDeleteWell, we'll just have to wait and see if RIP Ford goes to the Fair...
(Good to see you though, I sure miss your photoshops).
I make the BEST trifles! Not for the faint of heart though, I use at least half a bottle of sherry in each one!
ReplyDeleteHey RIP Ford, nice to see you here. Hope you make it to the Fair!
ReplyDeleteOh Fay.
ReplyDeleteDo you have room for visitors?
Abosolutely afw, come on over!
ReplyDeleteMatt, I will never be able to find the original movie thread so I will go OT on Dances fried beer thread...
ReplyDeleteJust watched Ikiru, the last of the Kurosawa (sp?) trilogy you recommended, and it was my favorite! I loved it, from the opening of the bureaucracy the women tried to overcome (so relevant to today, exactly the same!) to his interludes with the young woman, the ending scene at the wake - it was a super film. It was also beautiful how he was photographed through the playground bars at the end. The polluted pond looked suspiciously like the one in Drunken Angel, was it the same?
The actor (can't think of his name right now) was just awesome, thanks so much for the recommendations, I will definitely watch this one again. It all was over too soon...
Sorry to post and run but I should have been out working hours ago.
ReplyDeleteFlorie, I am happy that you liked Ikiru. Yeah, the bureaucratic runaround sure looked typical, didn't it.
ReplyDeleteThe actor was Takashi Shimura. I find it amazing that he was the same actor in all three films -- to do each role with such depth shows him to be one of, if not the greatest actor(s) I have evern seen on film.
The scene of him on the swing is the picture associated with the film. It is interesting how the song was very sad when he sang it in the club earlier in the film but seemed almost happy at the end.
Was it the same pond in "Angel" and "Ikiru?" I don't know, but it was certainly the same type of area. Post-was Japan was a constant theme of Kurasawa.
The joy of this film was how the bureaucrat found meaning in his life, perhaps when he most needed.
"Doesn't that make you angry?"
"I don't have time to be angry."
Speaking of old films, Fay and I are going to see Casablanca in a theater tonight.
Well, here's looking at you, kids. ;)
ReplyDeleteYes, have tonight tonight you two!
ReplyDeleteDate night! How fun! Have a great time, Fay and Matt. :x
ReplyDeleteYes, have tonight tonight you two!
ReplyDeleteAnd have tomorrow, tomorrow!
Damn, I missed RIP Ford!
ReplyDeleteAnd he's not even going to be at the Fair either. I sure he'll make his own though, and let us all know how it goes...
Alphie, ROFLMAO!!
ReplyDeleteHoly cow, those brain cells just keep leaking out of my ears!
I wish we'd see more of RIP Ford too. I have Facebook but I never go there.
ReplyDeleteAlphie, did I mention that we have a new addition to the family?
ReplyDeleteYou must remember this....
ReplyDeleteWe had a great tonight, tonight! It was fabulous seeing Rick and Ilsa on the big screen.
Of all the gin joints, in all the world....
Ah, I love Bogart.
Oh and LOL at the lot of you :D
ReplyDeleteI'm glad, Fay. Neat that you two went out on a Wednesday.
ReplyDeleteFay, have you seen Play It Again, Sam? I always enjoy watching that after Casablanca.
ReplyDeleteAlphie, here are their majesties. PattyAnn is in the middle. She's a problem child and we have renamed her Mrs. Fuzzybee.

Well, I'll leave in on for a few seconds in case Alphie checks back in :-)
ReplyDeleteGoodnight, dear Fay, and any other lurkyloos.

Lovely pic florrie. Mrs. Fuzzybee lol!
ReplyDeleteWe had no chaoice but a Wednesday, the Cineplex theatres are having a "classic" movie (one a month)for the next year. They have two show times each month (one a Tuesday and the other a Wednesday). On the good side it's only $5 and the theatre is 5 minutes from home.
Next month is Psycho...can't wait.

ReplyDeleteHmmm... Strange things are afoot at TCKT.
ReplyDeleteAnyhow...
ReplyDeleteHey florrie! Busy week, so I haven't checked in. I know you had an addition several months back... has there been another since then?
