You tube is a bad thing. It keeps me up late at night listening to things I can't find anywhere else. Doing a post on one song may seem to be a waste but I have been sure groovin' with this tune and I felt that I had to share it.
When my family moved back to California in 1969, KFRC San Francisco was playing a hot version of a song that I had not heard before. I found out a couple of years later that it was originally a Creedence Clearwater Revival song.
In 1978 while attending school in Sacramento, I got a job on the weekends at a radio station in Stockton. That meant that going to and from work I would pass through the small city of ... Lodi.
So forget John Fogerty and CCR -- not as a negative comment on their version -- you just need to put your soul shoes on for this one: a rare gem from 1969.
I hadn't heard this rendition before; it's great! Thanks Matt!
ReplyDeleteNo, I hadn't heard this one either, loved it!
ReplyDeleteA confession...when I first heard the CCR version (I was 2 or 3 at the time :-), I thought they were singing "Oh Lord, stalking a lodi again" and I wondered "what's a lodi?".

Well, 'scuse me while I kiss this guy!
ReplyDeleteMatt, ROFLMAO!!!
ReplyDeleteI always thought they were singing "stuck in a low dive again"
ReplyDeleteWhatever that means LOL!
LMAO, glad I'm not the only one!!
ReplyDeletetee hee, I love hearing the "alternate" lyrics.
I was once on a work trip with a guy and Badge came on the radio. I think I was singing along with it, and the guy I was with said, "That's what they're saying? My band sure must have sounded stupid when we played it."
ReplyDelete"She's got electric boobs and mohair shoes"
ReplyDeleteBenny & The Jets
Fay, I thought those were the words, lol.
ReplyDeleteElton John mumbles a lot, I'm sure I have lots of his songs wrong.
@Fay #8 - it's a mondegreen.
ReplyDeleteLady Gaga heard the lyrics the same way and thought, yeah, that's the look for me...
