Obama Gives The Finger To Israel

Can Israel (or America) survive another year and a half of this guy?  The Wall Street Journal :

U.S. President Barack Obama, seeking to place the U.S. ahead of the political tumult sweeping the Middle East, promised support and economic assistance for democratic reformers and for the first time called for the creation of a Palestinian state based on Israel's pre-1967 borders.

The pre-1967 borders, plus funding the Arab uprising (to the tune of billions) that is slaughtering innocent Christians and behaving like savages?

Mr. Obama specifically called on the leaders of Libya, Syria and Bahrain to cease brutal crackdowns on their populations that have left thousands dead in recent weeks. And he pledged billions of dollars in financial support for Tunis, Cairo and other Mideast governments that are seeking to embrace democratic transitions.

Zip sums it all up in a live blog.

  1. The Indefensible 1967 borders.

The borders that give back Golan to be used as an artillery/rocket platform to strike at all of Israel.

The borders that allowed even a miserably trained and Soviet-equipped Arab army to come close to destroying Israel.

Of course now, with US equipment and training assistance, the Egyptian army is much more dangerous, and the shorter ground they would need to cover if this idiocy stands would almost assure the destruction of Israel.

A few people I've been talking to at work (Millenialists, essentially) believe that Obama is the American leader who will betray Israel to her enemies and bring on Armageddon, either now or after a second term is assured.

Combine that with the belief by Ahmadinejad and others in the Middle East in the imminent return of the 'hidden'* imam, AND you can throw in the Mayan calendar, too, and things are not looking too good for mankind in general, and Israel in particular.

I wonder what the face of an enraged Yahweh will look like?

*(In hiding because he is probably busy f___ing a goat to produce even more demons.)

  2. Today I can clearly say that I am profoundly ashamed of our President and our wonks in Foggy Bottom.

The arrogance is astounding, untutored, and beyond reason.

Won't happen, but I wish Netanyahu, now en route to a meeting in Washington DC, would simply tell Obama to go fuck himself, then re-board an El Al flight back to Israel.

There is nothing for an honest man to discuss with a lying chickenshit weasel.

  3. Arim I agree 100% with your characterization of barryOhNo, except:

'Lying weasel' is an insult to weasels everywhere.

And a belated 'Thank You' for you comments on the death of Lilly. She is, indeed, still here with me now.

  4. #2 Aridog, Netanyahu did tell Obama where to get off (in slightly politer terms than you used :p)

He rejected a return to the 67 borders and slammed Obama for calling for such a thing.

One of Bibi's aides said that Obama simply doesn't 'get it' and is disconnected from reality in the Middle East.

I found it outrageous that Obama called for the "Palestinian state" to be "contiguous".

As I said in my own blog-post on the speech,

What does Obama mean by a contiguous state? That Gaza and the West Bank should be connected? Has he ever looked at a map of Israel? How can “Palestine” be contiguous without cutting Israel into two? And if contiguity is so important, why is it OK for Israel to not be contiguous?

  5. The untutored and profoundly illogical part of this idea of returning to pre-1967 borders for Israel is simply this ....

    1. "Two State" solution? There already is one, they are Jordan and Israel, as formulated under the post-Ottoman Empire San Remo Conference as amended in 1922 ... where the post-1967 Israeli borders are exactly what they were under the amended British Mandate for Palestine ...aka "Jewish National Home" ... aka "Jewish Palestine."

    2. Virtually all of the other British and French "Mandate" borders (Iraq, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, et al have been maintained and are supported today as "legitimate" ... essentially unchanged since 1923.

    3. Why is Israel subject to continuous modification (proposed and/or attempted by war) when the other portions of the same mandates are not? The 1923 borders for Syria, Jordan, Iraq are okay, so why not the Israeli borders defined by the same mandate in 1922?

    4. It is ludicrous to infer that Syria, Iraq, Jordan, et al., are somehow ancient entities with distinct unified heritages and entitlements, while Israel and Jews in particular are not? All of those borders were drawn up by West Europeans, plus a Japanese delegate, in the San Remo plan. Even Turkey ratified the layout in 1923.

    5. Today these self same Europeans and Americans apparently feel to tell Israel where she is, who she is and what she is not and cannot be? At the same time they accept the 1922 boundaries of Syria, Iraq, Jordan et al?

There really IS a distinct bigotry evident in such thinking. We yap on about "democracy" in the Middle East, all the while demeaning the sole true democracy in that Middle East ... some even might say Israel is too democratic, eh? Chaotic democratic polity comes to mind :D ... along the lines of two Jews = three opinions, etc.

It is a malignant bigotrry and the longer we perpetuate it, the worse it will become. Again.

It makes me sick to my stomach, literally. And I AM ashamed of my country now.

  6. Bravo Aridog! That is one of the best refutations of the nonsense that passes for Middle East diplomacy today.

Can we pass it on to Obama's speechwriters? Or the NYT?

  7. Excellent post Aridog. Obama's nonsense makes me so angry and embarrassed that I could spit. He's an idiot and an ignoramus. Intellectual my ass! He has the brain-power of a scarecrow, the learning of a fence post, and the street smarts of a potted plant.

    Ptooey.

  8. I will echo what annie and lady red said, Aridog, TY.

I can't understand WHY he is saying this unless it's red meat for the arab "street" to atone for taking out UBL.

I feel sick and frightened by this turn of events.

  9. Yes, well put, Ari. I'm no conspiracist, or at least don't believe that I am. But when I attempt to decipher the underlying motivations for the actions of this administration in regard to Israel I'm left with the thought that Israel's destruction is the very foundation of such actions. Nothing else makes sense in a logical and reasonable manner. I'll modify, either destruction or such a level of incompetence as to not be believed.

Interesting read here as to Israel's security needs. Would make good reading for Obama and State, too.

  11. Lady Red, RE: your comment #7. I wish you would not be so ambiguous. I really don't know how you feel on a subject when you write so indefinitely.

On a serious note, there are many good comments here. Aridog, your take is spot on. My question is how can the writers on an informal little blog such as this can see things with more clarity than the White House?

  12. Because we inhabit the real world, which most of the political class have never done? Theirs being theory, ours being reality? Beats me.

I think there are several reasons. The first is ordinary folks are not thinking purely in the realm of self interest. Next is the simple fact plain Joes and Janes adhere to the KISS principle, for the most part. Finally, a malaise has almost overwhelmed government, and much of business bureaucracy , where the "process" is more important than the "product" ... in this case "the speech" more significant than any result, good or bad ... which gets us back to "self interest."

Willful ignorance, regardless of any innate intelligence (purported), explains this, at least to me. It fits perfectly with selfish interest.
