Canada's opposition parties toppled the ruling Conservative minority government on Friday in a historic parliamentary finding of contempt, which doubled as a vote of no confidence and set the stage for the country's fourth national election in seven years.
Lovely. Just lovely.
Sigh.
Sorry to say that I really am not conversant with the internal Canadian politics that would have led to the judgement of contempt.
ReplyDeleteSo I will stick with my theory that the Canadians, in the end, just could not stand having a government more conservative than that of the US. ;)
Oops, sorry lady red I didn't see your post until after I posted mine. Great minds and all that LOL.
ReplyDeleteIt's not "Canadians" that made the decision DWT but the scuzbags that pass as political "leaders" of the opposition parties.
ReplyDeleteThe "contempt" finding was just an excuse to topple the government. If they hadn't used that they would have used the budget vote to bring it down.
ReplyDeleteBasically there are four different parties that hold seats in the House of Commons, the Conservatives hold more than any other single party but the other three parties together hold more than the Conservatives. So basically the opposition can band together at any time and vote no confidence to topple the government.
This is not a surprise to Canadians, we have be waiting for the (collective) opposition to move for the last few months. The political advertising started about three months ago.
ReplyDeleteThe good news is the Tories are 20 points ahead of the Liberals right now.
I'm fearing the worst possible outcome- PM Harper pulls off another minority (his polling numbers at this stage suggest no better outcome); the combined opposition advises the Governor-General that the Conservatives cannot command the support of the House; and the GG is asked to appoint a Liberal/Socialist/QuebecTreason coalition as Canada's next government. To add insult to this horror, the Prime Minister of Canada would not have been democratically elected as leader of his own party by rank-and-file members. It is sickening.
ReplyDeleteWoe, Canada! I do hope that I am proved wrong.
I agree Earl and said somewhat the same in the comment on my post.
ReplyDeleteI am praying fervently, that you are wrong.
What makes this especially disgusting is that one of the opposition parties is a separatist party.
ReplyDeleteThe good thing to keep in mind is that the opposition parties are a bunch of flaming morons and that any coalition governemnt they form will probably fall within a year.
I must say, however, that I am in a win-win situation. Either we will have a new conservative government or Canada will have such an inept government that my American money will soar in value.
On a serious note, I would hope that intelligent Canadians can't help but see the disaster that is the current resident at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and say "I want no part of that!"
As for why this would happen, the opposition would have forced this if they had to make to make up a reason.
About two weeks ago, I made my first ever contribution to a political campaign - to the Conservative Party of Canada.
ReplyDeleteI think the thing that most annoys the leftist/separatist coalition is that they really can't pin anything negative on the Conservatives; they've led well, and though there are hiccups as everywhere, Canada isn't having nearly the issues that most other places in the first world are struggling with and it's in large part due to the conservative government. I'm hoping that the rank and file recognize that!
Oh, this is rotten news! I hope and pray that PM Harper will get reelected, this time with a majority government. But Earl's prophecy of doom has given me the creeps...
ReplyDeleteGood luck Canada! And to PM Harper especially.
