Aww, thanks Fay. (I thought I heard you mention my name...)
unfortunatly, Mr Blackberry does not support the flash player, so I'll have to wait until tonight to fire up my old desktop and give it a listen. Although Elvis is one of my faves, I've always enjoyed Dave's version song better. Perhaps it's because I heard it first. You know, Matt, I'm pretty sure that the Dave Edmunds version is the only one I ever hear on the radio.
Worse than that, though, I was inspired to pack a couplr of Elvis cds to listen to on my drive to a jobsite in the city today. Enjoying the tunes, but I would have been better off listening to news radio... I would have heard about the hour backup onto the GWB. Doh!
At least I have something good to listen to while I sit here.
I find traffic reports to be one of those things that radio stations feel compelled to do, but are about as accurate as weather forecasts. I knew someone who worked at a station that gathering traffic information for the on-air reporter -- she said that unless something happened right in front of a station's traffic copter or plane, the info was pretty moldy by the time it got on the air.
I also have the experience of always moving to areas that did not seem to be home of radio target demographics -- meaning I would be pretty lucky if they even bothered to mention my route.
Matt, in general the traffic reports here are like that. However, they seem to be pretty useful for the Hudson River Crossings to/from NYC. They're pretty well covered. I don't know if it's a result of 9/11 but there are dozens of cameras for the crossings, and if I was home at my computer I could probably access live feeds from some of them.
Glad you liked that site, Florrie. It is awesome. Much greater detail than you would ever see if you were behind the velvet ropes! I can't wait to get home and a better monitor.
This was not a big hit in the US, but I did the best i could. My station had it on the playlist and I played it as often as I could.
ReplyDeleteHey, may be you should post the audio of my featuring it on Hits From Across The Pond at Treasure Island Oldies...
ReplyDeleteI have been meaning to ask Vikram how to post MP3s without making "videos" of them.
ReplyDeleteAlthough there are copyright issues (which is probably why Blogspot does not make it easy to post MP3s).
Aww, thanks Fay. (I thought I heard you mention my name...)

Unfortunately I can't spell this morning.

Woohoo! Traffic's moving...

ReplyDeleteI'm familiar with the Linda Ronstadt version as well but I'm not sure if that's because I own the album it's on, or whether I heard it on the radio.
Not a bad cover. But why not listen to the Mick?
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry. Not at all that familar with this particular song.
ReplyDeleteBut as soon as I saw 'rooftop', I could think of nothing else but...
The Beatles rooftop
They own that gig, you know.
Seriously off topic. But this I had to share.
ReplyDeleteGoogle Art Project
I've only just started to look around, but wow!
Luther, that is a fantastic site! I was just at the Hermitage.
ReplyDeleteWow.

ReplyDeleteAnd, for a pick-me-up for the day...
Magnificent Gorkha soldiers have long been known the world over for their valor and these khukuri-wielding warriors winning the British many a battle have become folklore.
A retired Indian Gorkha soldier recently revisited those glory days when he thwarted 40 robbers, killing three of them and injuring eight others, with his khukuri during a train journey. He is in line to receive three gallantry awards from the Indian government.
I've always had the highest admiration for the Gorkha's. This is one more reason why.
Luther, the Google Art Project is absolutely magnificent! I'm in heaven! Thank you SO much. :)
ReplyDeleteYou're of course very welcome, Lady Red.
