Twelve languages? This misguided public policy is part of the problem. We are one country, made up of people from literally everywhere. A common language is the glue which gives us cohesion.
All of our ancestors came here from a far-away land, and many of them didn't speak English. To conduct business and survive, they learned to speak English. So should today's immigrants.
