Refreshing Chaos

The concern about the vote for the Speaker of the House isn't about who wins as such but rather that we are told to hold our noses and accept the anointed even though we know it will do little to benefit us..

The news out of Washington tonight is that the House has adjourned without having elected a new Speaker. This is the first time that the process has gone to multiple ballots in 100 years. We are told that this will keep the government from functioning. That would suggest that the governmet is functioning now.

It is one thing for the MSM to comment on it in their usual fashion. NBC News puts it this way:

A band of ultraconservative rebels on Tuesday blocked House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy from securing the speaker’s gavel....

and

Neither McCarthy allies nor his hard-right enemies are backing down.

(Emphasis mine)

For a news organization to speak in such terms is no surprise. However, it is troublesome when people such as Newt Gingrich seem to echo their sentiments. Gingrich says this fight will cause chaos.

So what? The last thing the country needs is another Vichy Republican Speaker.

Why must we support the Marshal Petain of the House GOP?

I do not care if a majority of the House GOP Caucus supports Kevin McCarthy. We do  not need another John Boener or Paul Ryan. It is one thing for a Nancy Pelosi to take actions that are an anathma to everything we stand for -- we expect that from a Democrat. It is anohter when the people who supposedly share our values cave on issues we find important. We are well aware of the standard operating procedure of the GOP ruling class: say what you need to say to get elected, then forget everything you said.

We are being fed the same arguments that are used to dissuade us from forming a third party: the status quo does little for us but it will be the end of the world if we go against the status quo.

It is about time we had a little chaos. It is refreshing to see that we have some Republican House members who are looking out for the interests of the voters and not supporting the out-of-touch elites.
