What is it about Republicans and "Conservatives" (not that they are necessarily the same)? Whenever they get someone in a position to do something and he actually does his best to do it, in ride the "Moderate Conservatives" saying, "Now that we have people in powerful positions, we should elect more moderate candidates so that people on the left will work with us."
We saw that when Newt Gingrich was the Speaker of the House. He had a list of things that he said he would try and do. While he did not get everything done that he had hoped, he sure gave it his best shot.
I was at a party in the mid '90's. I overheard someone say that the media was "out to get" Gingrich, "as well they should." In other words, this person had a very negative view of Gingrich because of what was reported in the media -- the same media that this person admitted was out to get Gingrich. How does that make any sense?
I follow a website called Quora. The premise of that site is that people ask questions and people answer them. I do not recommend the site. There are people there that I follow and I enjoy reading. However, some of the people on Quora are pathetically stupid.
On Quora people still say that Trump was Putin's Lassie and that Trump had colluded with Russia to steal the 2016 election from the rightful winner, Hillary Clinton. You can still read how it is documented that Trump lied 32,000 times. That number is not an exaggeration, at least not on my part. You can still read how treasonous rioters were ready to bulldoze the Capitol building and murder everyone in it and Ashley Babbitt was leading the charge with her Samurai sword chopping off heads as she went.
Along with those people, you find supposed conservatives who think we should find someone who is more, shall we say, palatable than Donald Trump. You can try and explain to them that no matter how wimpy the Republican candidate is, he will still be loathed and despised until the Wednesday morning after the First Tuesday after the First Monday in November when they lose. The won't believe you, even if that has happened a number of times in the past. You can remind them that the best Bud of the Clintons and Obamas, one George W. Bush, was called Bushchimphitler when he was in office.
I have read people saying that if the Republicans nominated a woman, the Democrats would treat her with respect and give her a chance because she was a woman. I remind them of how Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachman were treated by everyone on the left. I never got a response on that point, but if I did the responses would probably be along the lines of how terrible they were and that they deserved that treatment.
Conservatives need to set a course and follow it. We need to ignore those who claim that Republicans want to impose a tyrannical government in the United States. By and large it is the Democrats who want to control every aspect of life.
It isn't Conservatives who don't want to "reach across the aisle." As I observed many years ago and have seen it proven time and time again: when the Democrats are in power, Republicans need to do what the Democrats want because they are in power. When Republicans are in power, Republicans should do what the Democrats want because it is the fair thing to do.
I would be tempted to say "Grow a spine, Conservatives," but I think Conservatives do have a spine. It is the members of the UniParty who call themselves Republicans that want to milk the system for their and their friend's benefit.
We need to take the country back. Not that I am diametrically opposed to compromise, but we need to stop having that as our go-to plan.
