Accepting the unacceptable

There was a movie released in 2004 that tracked the downfall of German dictator Adolph Hitler as seen mostly through the eyes of one of his secretaries, Traudl Junge. You may not know the film by it's name, Downfall, but you probably aware of a scene from the movie that has been the basis of many parodies over the years.

An example of those parodies is this one, a parody about the parodies.

Here is the orginal scene showing the orginial subtitles and a little extra footage to show more of the context.

An early scene in Downfall shows Hitler hiring Junge based upon her being a native of Munich, a city with which Hitler has a strong connection. He brings her into his office and softly pets his dog. He then has Junge take dictation at a typewriter. He speaks so quickly that she makes a mistake and stops. She is upset. He see what has happened and goes to the young woman and tenderly comforts her.

To me, that is a very important scene. Is the point of the scene that Hitler was really a wonderful human being who has been misunderstood by history?

Absolutely not.

The point of the scene is that Hitler did not come to power by saying "I am going to murder millions of people and make your lives a living Hell"; he came to power by telling people what they wanted to hear and how he was going to solve their problems if they just did what he said.

While he may have seemed a powerful father figure to gain power (with thugs carefully hidden in plain sight), the film makes it clear that he was just as evil as history says he was. He made people believe that things would get better if people just abandoned their rights and freedoms and obeyed all of the dictates of the government.

It is reassuring that people have learned their lesson and would not fall for such heavy-handed control again.

Or would they?

Today, much of the world is in the midst of two-week times what -- thirty? -- period to "flatten the curve." Who has borne the brunt of these "health" measures? Well, there are those who practice religion of Judaeo-Christian heritage. There are small businesses.

Meanwhile, large companies are able to handle things without missing a step. When you have a big warehouse store you have no problem still handing a large number of people even with the controls in place. For a small shop limited to one or two customers at a time, it is not so easy.

It is being suggested that people be forced to get vaccines that have not gone through the normal approval process and for which manufacturers have been give an exemption from liability. The government, of course, will have no liability. Big companies will probably also have legislation exempting them from liability.

People will need a "vaccine passport" in order to fly. Amazon has suggested that employees who have been vaccinated will wear a sticker on the ID badges showing they have been vaccinated.

Currently in British Columbia, Canada, people are not allowed to travel out of their health districts except for work or emergencies. There are checkpoints on highways where police stop people to make sure they are not travelling in contradiction of the dictates.

Police in Australia have busted into people's homes because people inside were not wearing masks.

Most of these restrictions have not been enacted as law by elected officials. They have been imposed by unelected bureaucrats. We are told to "follow the science" and listen to the experts.

But what happens if a doctor or a scientist speaks out against the draconian measures that have been imposed on us? They are deplatformed. Their videos are removed from YouTube, their tweets are removed from Twitter. Mention "COVID" on Facebook and a note will appear telling people to read the latest COVID information -- from approved sources, of course.

We have been told that the esteemed Dr. Fauci has been completely truthful to us. In testimony before the US Senate, he testified that he had no reason to believe that Chinese scientists would have lied to him. Now it is reported that Fauci received a long message that should have warned him about the Chinese government and its activities. He said it was too long to read. Meanwhile, anyone who questions any of the COVID hysteria is all but accused of trying to destroy Western Civilization.

I do not mean to conflate government actions regarding COVID with the Holocaust. What is frightening, though, is the number of people who willingly go along with the current power grabs by government. While not directly related, we even had our own Reichstag fire on January 6.

I can almost hear people saying "I have a train to catch."

Wait, or, as the cool kids say "Hold my beer." In Canada, the Trudopian government has approved the use of OUT OF DATE vaccines. So that completes the Canuck holy trinity:

    1. Telling people they can mix vaccination types from shot 1 to shot 2.

    2. Telling people they can wait much longer than the manufacturers recommended time between jabs (because the government was too inept at sourcing enough vaccines).

    3. Telling people that it's safe to have vaccines that are out of date.
