Progressivism is a Cult

This is an interesting take on current events. I don't see the world quite the way Z-Man does, but his perspective is usually interesting and unencumbered by PC BS.

The Left in America has always been a spiritual force, rather than an ideological one, as is the case in Europe. The roots of Progressivism are in religion. Their ideal society was never about material equality. It was about communal salvation. As the empire has shifted fully into liberal democracy since the end of the Cold War, this spiritual yearning has turned into a religion of its own. Instead of salvation, the goal is a worldly Utopia of universal cooperation and inclusion of all people.
 Yes, I read EVERYTHING.

  1. One of my oldest friends in the world, who I've been sisters wtih since 6th grade, is beating the "slavery/PTSD" drum and has totally bought into the media narrative. To say I'm shocked is an understatement; we grew up the same way, a block from each other, eating out of the same cereal bowl. I never looked at her as black, she had every opportunity I did, and is smarter than me and more accomplished than me. I'm still not sure how to process it.

    1. Maybe she says those things about you and assumes that you have those advantages because of you skin color.

    2. I will say this much, based on decades of getting to know non-white people (including, like, my wife): it's true that there are things about not being white that a white American is gonna have a damned hard time getting, if they ever do.

This doesn't reflect badly on anyone, really, it was a fucked up path we took to get here. I don't think that much is controversial (just the details, which nobody agrees on).

Where it goes off the rails:

"... aaaand therefore the State will assume Plenary Power and go all Khmer Rouge on your Collectivized Ass"

Yeah. No. That doesn't follow, morally or logically.

That's where I cut the knot.

  2. Well, I don't know Matt. It's a puzzle to me. We live so far apart now. I would trust her with my son's life, and would take a bullet for any of her family. I would love to spend an evening with her over a bottle of wine and talk talk talk. But I fear an impasse. To lose a close friend, when I have so few, terrifies me.

  3. I was brown as a nut growing up. Lots of sun, genetics. Have I experienced "racism"? I guess so. I've been refused services because I was a toasty skin color in my younger days. I didn't care, I just spent my money elsewhere. I've experienced way more problems from being female than anything, and I still don't care. I put my head down, work harder, and respect comes. I sure as hell don't babble about the family members who came to the USA as indentured servants. No one alive today did that. I'm only responsible for myself, and I only hold others responsible for THEIR actions. ISN'T THAT THE FOUNDING PRINCIPLE OF AMERICA? I always thought so.

  4. The problem with those calling for the change today is that they are not really the productive class. Big tech companies? We got along without them before; we can do it again.

That is why the COVID-19 lockdown — to keep the productive from being productive. What they didn’t count on was that the productive would rebel against being non-productive. If things do come to a conflict, the people wanting change won’t know how to handle a dedicated opposition. Those calling for change have gotten as far as they have because the opposition was had an attitude of “Yeah, whatever.” But that will only go so far.
