What Privilege?

One of the big stories of the past week or two is about Rosanna Arquette bemoaning her white privilege.

“I’m sorry I was born white and privileged. It disgusts me. And I feel so much shame,”
Both her parents were movie actors, although not of great stature. Her grandfather, Cliff Arquette -- otherwise know as Charlie Weaver, long a staple on the game show Hollywood Squares...

...had made movies as far back as 1940 and had been on television since the early 1950's...

... and had a radio show.

Rosanna even was the subject of an early 1980's Top 40 hit.

Ms. Arquette wants us to believe that she has all of her privilege because of her skin color. Her Hollywood upbringing had nothing to do with it.

Canada's Prime Minister tells the story of how his brother, Michel, got out of an arrest for marijuana possession because of his white privilege

The fact that Justin and Michel's father, Pierre, had also been Prime Minister of Canada and had many legal connections and a great deal of influence had nothing to do with getting Michel off the hook. Never mind that Justin would still be snow boarding somewhere if he had not become Prime Minister for no other reason that who his father was.

If there are privileged people who should be ashamed, it is those two. However, their skin color has nothing to do with it. People who live in the real world, who have had to work hard to provide for themselves and their families, wonder where their white privilege has been.

As for white privilege, many people, including many conservatives, are falling all over themselves sticking up for Chris Cuomo after his recent tirade and threats to a man.

Tucker Carlson may have had a gang of protesters at his home threatening Carlson's wife and children while he was not there, but that is nothing compared to the indignity of that Mr. Cuomo faced. He was called, I hate to use the word, "Fredo." The horror of it all!

"Fredo" is an ethnic slur. I am confused. I thought Italians were white. I thought white people had privilege, and one of those privileges was that they could not be the victims of any ethnic prejudice. But Chris Cuomo was subjected to an ethnic slur.

I don't know what kind of privilege being white gets people, but coming from famous families sure comes with a ton.

  1. The "white privilege" thing gets on my last nerve. People of Euro descent who wring their hands over it and trample each other to "apologize" are collaborators and should be treated accordingly when the time comes.

My privilege has got me zilch in life. My son got a speeding ticket the other day; if he was a member of some "oppressed" group he could've claimed victimhood. As it is he shrugged, paid the fine, and went back to working his ass off to support the whiners and snowflakes.

I've often thought that a lot of these Hollywood/sports star types feel guilty for getting paid tons of money when they have such little talent, or for playing a children's ball game. If they were serious in their convictions they would give all their money and toys to the non-productive members of our crumbling society.

    THAT ain't gonna happen!

Good post Matt. We'll see how long blogger lets it stay up.

  2. Guido: that's a slur.

Fredo: that's a slur too, just not how Cuomo took it.

    It means traitor.

    2. Yes, now he OWNS it! His picture is under "Fredo" in the dictionary, lol.

It was awesome how the Trump Campaign (and I LOVE Brad Parscale!) came out immediately with the "Fredo Unhinged" t-shirt. IIRC, it sold out quickly, haahahahaha.

  3. Florrie commented about the Proud Boys but I can't find it now.

Anyhoo, here is more from Vlad: link text

    1. Antifa started the riots the night Trump was elected.

They smashed windows literally to grab the top spot on the leader board in terms of being the hip place to cause trouble. They admitted this in the Portland Mercury.

The cute little inked shaved super woke deeply butch lesbian who was working the desk at the cannabis shop that night? Super scared.

(Nothing keeps me from my bud.)

Most of the "woke" looking inked strange ppl in portland are super nice on a personal level. Don't judge.

(Heh. Does this sound familiar, in reverse?)

    2. lady red, the mayor said violence will not be tolerated but it certainly was, as we all saw in numerous videos taken last weekend.

It makes me sick to see what Portland has become. Reasonable democrats (surely there are a number of them still) must also be sick about all this. But with a complicit media to bolster their propaganda, the truth takes some work and I'm afraid not enough people want to take the time.

  4. Excellent article you've written, Matt. Glad it's still up! What a joke these lefties are. If she feels so guilty, she should move into the projects and work for change. But these people just love to virtue signal, their words are totally empty and meaningless.

Like Corey Booker, a privileged son of wealthy tech executives who has had every advantage handed to him on a silver platter. He loves to namedrop Newark, N.J., as if intimating he was raised there when in fact he grew up in the mainly white, upper-class Harrington Park.

Orwell said "In a time of deceit telling the truth is a revolutionary act". Newspeak is now rampant. I still say, it's not going to end well and we conservatives need to react in like manner, not shrink in intimidation to the left's fascist tactics.

    Anyway, very good read.
