Americana
I hope you enjoy Walt Disney, Roy Rogers, and the Sons of the Pioneers. I loved when yodeling was a part of western music, and the SOTP album "Cool Water" is still one of my favorite LPs of all time.
This is the "uncut" version, before the shrill gov't ninny-nannies censored it. We can't have Pecos Bill rolling and smoking a cigarette. Think of the children! *gasp*
At work the other day I was talking to a customer about music, and that led into cartoons. I was telling her about the music in the old Warners cartoons and their musical director, Carl. W. Stallings. I told the lady that he did the Warners music until 1958, which was also the year that Arthur Q. Bryant died. She asked, "Who is Arthur Q. Bryant?"
I replied, "I'm shoe you know who Awfa Q Bwyant is," at which point she did. Get your glasses adjusted and get an Elmer Fudd imitation at the same time. What service!
Very Americana - Bryant has passed but Elmer Fudd is an Immortal...
I heard a piece on the news the other day about what makes a cartoon character immortal: when adults who watched that character as a child introduce their own children to it, even though it only exists in reruns...
The latest character which is about to go immortal is Spongebob Squarepants.

ReplyDeleteWhat part of that would even survive the censors these days? Free fire on a bunch of painted Indians wtf?! Yeah that'll go over well!
DeleteIn today's version he'd grow some organic weed and go smoke it with the Indians.
I looked up Pecos Bill on Wiki - kind of like Homer (the Greek poet, not the Simpson's character) writing a legend about the Texas.

...and that's the reason there's gold in them thar hills... :-D
ReplyDeleteA trip down memory lane, lady red. To a gentler, happier and more innocent time.
