Lady Red's Musings

The Superbowl...wasn't. It was a complete mismatch. I don't know if Seattle is indeed that good or if Denver is indeed that pathetically horrible, but either way I went to bed while the 4th quarter was still playing. The only good thing was the halftime show; Bruno Mars was very enjoyable. The Red Hot Chili Peppers? Not so much.

I believe Noah has rescued my Toshiba laptop from sluggishland. It was taking up to two minutes to load a page, and was locking up on a regular basis. It seems to have gotten a second wind today, and is functioning almost normally.

Have you all seen the price of propane? It has skyrocketed. Millions of Americans heat their homes with propane. I just read that Colorado's propane prices have jumped to $6 a gallon, from $2.30. Ouch.

There's lots I'd like to say about the effects of Obamacare in my neck of the woods, but HIPAA laws have effectively duct-taped the mouths of docs and nurses. I will say that very sick people are falling through the cracks. I've wondered if sick/elderly patients are issued numbers that won't work intentionally, a stalling tactic until Dear Leader can coerce the youngsters to sign up and start coughing up their cash. I know that sounds evil, but it may be the truth of the matter.

Random thoughts anyone? Tidbits of news? Funny happenings? Good books or movies?

  1. I am glad the game went well as far as the officiating goes. Mistakes are one thing, but downright favouritism is another. That.video to which Florrie link on my post was an example of what Denver use to get frequently in the 80's.

As for your computer, have you tried defragging the hard drive? I am sure Vikran can be of more help than I.

Oh, speaking of Seattle, did you see where some Muslims tour he'd a gay night club? Did you also see that the Super Bowl was celebrated because both teams were from states that promoted abortio, er, supported women's health?

    1. Yep, I've defragged, and every other trick in my limited bag of computer health tools. I finally handed it to Noah, and he went through it with a fine tooth comb, taking a bunch of garbage off. It was amazing how many programs had weaseled their way into launching at startup!

I'm glad that the Seahawks won Matt, but I was disappointed that it was such a blowout. Manning got spanked so hard he won't be able to sit down for a week! :))

    2. From what I understand, Manning is a class ask. I hear the same about Elway.

I still hate the Broncos. :(

    3. lr, one thing to get to know is Task Manager.

People have to be hooked up to computers to get their vitals.

Computers can more or less be hooked up to themselves - monitor disk, network, CPU usage.

You can find what's eating your machine.

Things like disk defrag is crucial too, but sometimes (especially with modern sites and modern browsers) a single web page can eat up a machine real bad. Task Manager in Windows - and also the Task Manager in the Google Chrome browser - can help you find the culprit.

  2. Ii am also glad to know that the Non~Affordable Clusterf**k Act is protected from comments by people who know what they are talking about. Heaven forbid anything get in the way of the enslavement of the American People.

    1. Although I haven't heard the word "collaborator" spoken aloud, I think many in health care are beginning to feel very uncomfortable.

    2. Cover Oregon is still f'd from what I hear.

We transitioned successfully to a new plan on the exchange - but only because of the ruthless and knowledgeable persistence of my wife, as well as the competent and proactive cooperation of the carrier. We were one of a relative handful of families who transitioned before the year end deadline.

Many people were forced to remain on temporarily extended plans - which sounds OK, until you realize they're getting exposed to 2 deductibles in one year - the deductible will kick in again when they finally transition to a new plan in March.

This is a complete upending of the social values which ACA was ostensibly sold under. Coverage advantage should not accrue to the smart and ruthless.

But if that's what it takes... well, we're good like that.

    1. LOL!!! I really like your quarterback, even though the commentators kept running him down. The Seahawk defense is one of the best I've seen in a long time, and they're such a young team! It wouldn't surprise me if Seattle makes it to the Big Game next year too (if they can get past the mighty Packers! lol).

    2. It is funny when a Seattle team is in the playoffs in any sport. If they are winning, they are a good team. If they are not winning, they are a joke that should be nowhere near a playoff game.

That is the east coast mindset. It is really bad in Canada. Every Saturday night during the hockey season, the CBC has "Maple leafs Night," I mean "Hockey night in Canada." If the Maple Leafs are not on the program (two games back to back), that means they are not playing that day. If they are playing in Vancouver, you know, a VANCOUVER home game, the game starts at 4:30 so it can have the Leafs can be in the opening game back east.

Now I sort of understand it with the Leafs: they are like the Yankees (except the Leafs have not won the championship in about 480 years). However, the Blue Jays are owned by one of the big media companies, nor have they won any titles in years. However, even in Vancouver it is easy to get coverage about the Jays but hard to find anything about the Mariners who are a three hour drive away.

To make it worse, Toronto has a basketball team. The CBC will pre-empt programming from time to time to bring us one of their games. The even do that with the soccer team -- two teams hardly anyone, even in Toronto much less Vancouver, give a flaming rip about. On top of that, Vancouver tax dollars help support the CBC. They ought to just rename it the TBC.

    1. The look that the two young men exchange toward the end of the video could be an outtake from Brokeback Mountain. I'm fairly certain that's not what the LDS prez was intending to convey. Or was he? :))
