ReplyDeleteThis is a very interesting event in Switzerland. I read a little more about it and was really shocked to find out they accept twice as many asylum seekers as Europe (one for every 332 inhabitants as opposed to one asylum seeker for every 625 inhabitants in Europe!).
I loved this part, and it should give us all hope:
Human rights groups and left wing parties gathered enough signatures to force Sunday's referendum, in a bid to get the government measures withdrawn, warning that they could lead to discrimination.
Then they held the vote. 80% of Swiss voters decided to keep the new restrictions.
I can hear solus saying...schadenfreude ensues. :-)
This kind of reminds me of the failed union recall efforts in WI.

Why the hell are the asylum seekers heading to Switzerland? I can't afford to settle in Switzerland - how can they? Oh, yeah, right. They can afford it because they're broke.
