I posted here a few months ago about the engagement party, and now we are - literally - on the eve of the wedding, which is due to take place (please G-d) tomorrow, 31st October, at around 7 pm. (I use the descriptor "around" advisedly, knowing Israeli time-keeping as I do.
I've scheduled a Wedding Day open thread on my blog, but I thought I'd put a similar one up here too to distract you and cheer you up from all the gloom and doom in the shape of Hurricane Sandy and the elections that is going on on your side of the pond.
Here's what I wrote on my blog:
Well, the great day has finally arrived and I’m having a hard time trying to get my head round the fact that my baby is getting married. It feels like only yesterday that she was a tiny baby in my arms. The years have flown by so quickly (OK, not so many years, she’ll be 20 a couple of days after the wedding!), and yet here is my little girl, poised on the edge of a great new adventure with her handsome beau beside her.
I can’t remember the last time I felt so excited, so nervous, so many butterflies in my tummy, and so happy and emotional all at the same time. I’m looking forward to seeing Vered in all her finery and her glorious wedding dress, and yet I don’t deny a tinge of sadness that she is leaving home. I’m eagerly anticipating walking her down the aisle to the chuppah (the Wedding Canopy), yet full of bittersweet emotion too.
I want to wish the young couple every blessing, may Hashem grant them joy and happiness, good health and prosperity, and success in all their endeavours.
The wedding itself is going to be a marvellous mix of European and Moroccan customs. I’m not sure how the ceremony is going to sound, but it won’t be anything that we’re used to from “der heim” (the Old Country)!
Vered and I have been shopping and have gotten in sacks full of “accessories” for the dancing, like jingly rattles, sparkly lights – and scarves for belly dancing! Now that’s going to be a riot!
I don’t promise to post photos or videos of the wedding but if I find anything suitably incriminating I’ll put it up in another post.
I also don't promise to be around to comment and join in the conversation both here and my own place, at least not until the weekend, but I'll certainly rejoin you once things have calmed down here. (I can't remember what calm feels like...)
Wishing us all mazal tov and happier times ahead for everyone. May we continue to celebrate together for many years ahead.
Mazel Tov, y'all!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful!!
ReplyDeleteNa zdarovya!!!
Mazel tov to all, annie!
ReplyDeleteNow I'm just chuckling because I had a Polish drinking friend way back and she taught me that word but I guess I just spelled it phonetically:
ReplyDeleteNostrovia!!! Pistrovia!! Pita, pita!!
A joyous occasion, Annie. My wishes to your youngest daughter and her lucky groom, for health, happiness, and a long life to enjoy them both.
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful post Annie. I love happy occasions! I wish a lifetime of happiness for your baby daughter and her groom.
ReplyDeleteWishing us all mazal tov and happier times ahead for everyone. May we continue to celebrate together for many years ahead.
I'm toasting your wonderful sentiment! *clink* Mazel Tov to you and your lovely family!
....I wonder if annie is sober yet

Hope the day was lovely and filled with love. Mazel Tov!
Hi guys, thank you all for your wonderful good wishes. We had a fantastic day, but it was so emotional and intense I'm having a hard time coming down from it all. There isn't much chance to unwind anyway because we're going down to Dimona tomorrow for a whole weekend of celebrations.
ReplyDeleteAbout 35 members of my family are coming with, joining with the groom's family to make one riotous noisy Shabbat of European and Moroccan customs, prayers and songs. Not to mention food... I'm not sure if Dimona will ever recover. I hope they have that reactor well insured. :))
Wedding photo going up in a minute...
Here we are a minute before we left the house (my daughter and I):

Two very lovely ladies! You both look radiant!
DeleteRadiant is an excellent word to describe them lady red!
DeleteIn the spirit of the upcoming election, I fully endorse the two previous comments!
DeleteA beautiful bride and lovely mom, you are both just glowing! I love Vered's dress and veil.
Thank you for all the compliments. :)
DeleteVered designed the dress and veil herself. We got it from a wedding-dress shop/business - which doesn't quite describe the place. It's a business run by a woman whose heart is totally in it. She listens to the girls and what they want, advising, altering, suggesting, and of course creatign teh dress of their dreams.
The dresses are rented not sold, so we have to take the dress back within the week. You don't have to buy a new dress for your wedding though. You can rent one of their hundreds of dresses, and they'll make alterations and changes as you need and wish.
Vered's dress was made new specially for because they didn't have the style that she wanted in her size - she's too tall and too slim. Oy, some people have such problems! :p
The veil wasn't new but Vered asked for extras like appliqued lace at the edge and very thin wire threaded through to make it wavy. It wouldn't have occurred to me. She's so talented.
Tall and slim...*sigh* wouldn't THAT be nice? I'm short and, uh, "large-boned".
Deleteannie, she has a fine eye for style, her dress was elegant yet traditional. What a happy time!!
Here's a picture that may look vaguely familiar. When Z & E got married, my elder daughter's girls were bridesmaids (flower girls to you foreigners) adn they wore very similar dresses. And the wedding was in the same hall.
ReplyDeleteSo here we are 5 years down the line and Z & E's girls were flower girls for Vered. These 2 were not alone - they "served" along with my 6 other granddaughters. :) (Our 2 yr old grandson was not a flower girl... :). )
(I won't post pictures of the other children because as they get bigger their faces become more recognizable).

They're adorable Annie! I'm sure your grandson is happy to not be adorned in a pink fluffy dress! :))
DeleteYou would be wrong Lady Red. Since he has 4 sisters and no brothers, and in day care he's the only boy in his group, he doesn't understand why he can't wear a dress, and when the child-minders brush the girls' hair and makes them pony tails, he rushes to the drawer to pull out a clip or ponytail holder. :).
DeleteBut he's such a boy in other ways. Loves cars and anything else with wheels. He plays with dolls, but only to smash them into something else. No nurturing ways with him! :)
(BTW, I don't know why the above picture came out so small. I used the imgw to resize it but it's too small to see the detail on Vered's dress).
Awww, how sweet! And I cannot believe your grandson is already 2!!! My gosh, how can that be when he was just born a few short months ago...
DeleteIt's his 2nd birthday tomorrow! I can't believe how time flies either.
DeleteOne last one for the road.Look at the radiant face of Pinhas. He's such a sweetie!

snnf snnf snnf...what the heck got into my eyes :)
DeleteBeautiful annie, thanks for sharing. What joy this must bring you. Long life and happiness to the beautiful couple, L'chaim!
I see more grandbabies in bubbe annie's future ;)
I'm so happy for you all, annie. It was wonderful of you to share the pictures. I'll be smiling all night :-)
Deleteannie, sorry I'm late with my good wishes but thank you so much for sharing your daughter's wonderful day with us!
ReplyDeleteThe love and joy just gushes out. Really, really beautiful.

He plays with dolls, but only to smash them into something else.
Dude. Awesome.
Thanks Lewy.
DeleteAnd yeah, he's awesome. Takes after his namesake - Ariel. Only better looking. :D
Annie, thank you very much for the pictures. I think we all needed a loving, special event such as this.
