Mazal tov! Our daughter is engaged!

the happy couple We are delighted to announce that "daughter in PT" got engaged tonight to her lovely young man who hails from Dimona. Yeah, the town with the nuclear reactor. No, he doesn't glow in the dark. I asked.  :-)

His family is of Moroccan origin, my family is of German-Jewish stock, and my other half is from a Hassidic background. So it's going to be an interesting wedding!  If I get a chance (and if I recover in time) I will update about the engagement party, which is going to include a "Hinna" - henna ceremony.  It's basically an excuse to dress up in Moroccan kaftans, scarves and belly dance.

We're not sure when the wedding is going to be. Some time after the High Holy Days in September is the general estimate. I'll send you all an invitation when the time comes and I expect the Table to charter a plane to come and join in the celebrations!  :)

May we all continue to celebrate happy occasions!

  5. annie, your daughter looks very, very happy - this must make you very happy too!

Your future son in law looks pretty smug! Which he should be, considering how lucky he is to have landed your daughter!

Congratulations to all - the celebrations will echo everywhere.

  6. Thank you everyone for your good wishes. I'm so glad I could share this happy occasion with you all. I'll be sure to update with photos of the party, the belly-dancing (hmm. Perhaps not...) and the wedding date.

Thank you too, Matt, for your.. um... musical contribution. :))

  7. Well, we had the engagement and Hinna party last night and we had a blast! The melding of two cultures into one Jewish Israeli identity was a very heart-warming experience. Plus who doesn't like Moroccan dancing? Or cakes and sweets? :)

You can read all about it on my latest post on my blog.

Sorry, there was no belly dancing after all. They come from the wrong part of Morocco. ::Sigh:: We'll try better next time. ;)
