Heather Has Two Mommies and Heather Has Four Mommies and a Big Bearded Daddy Who Wants to Marry Her Off to a Cousin Back in Pakistan, bet on the latter.
You know if the current pope had once been Cardinal Borgia, we wouldn't be having this problem. Just sayin'.
Anyway, I think Mark makes an extremely valid point in that statement - highlighting the hypocrisy of the media when it comes to tolerance for Christians as opposed to tolerance for Muslims. Just more PC bull.
I'm with Steyn on the Church's dance with the devil on this issue. The Church WANTED Obamacare... until it conflicted with doctrine. And there's a real issue in that the Church is looking for an exemption for themselves, but not for those devout of the faith who own businesses and would have to spring for the type of coverage the Church itself finds unacceptable.
I'm not happy with this. At all.
As I said in comments on a different thread, I have real issues with the Church's stance on birth control (although I concede the point that promiscuity has been much increased since birth control has become widespread). I think were the issue focused only on birth control, most people would "meh" the Church's argument. But it includes abortion coverage, and that - even for many who would consider themselves pro-choice - is asking the Church to go too far.
Also, I would like to point out that anyone who uses the phrase "access to birth control" is playing right into the arguments for Obamacare. I'd like to have examples of people - REAL examples, not far out ones - of people in the US who don't have access to birth control, even without insurance. There are mail order pharmacies who fulfill bc scripts and then deliver them to your door. How is that a lack of access?
And price... One of the more expensive bc scripts is less than 60$ a month. Ace quoted the generic price at 9$ a month. That's ONE fast food visit for one person. It's also something that a person can be reasonably expected to pay on their own.
There are so many things about this that bother me, I could write for hours. I won't subject you all to that, though. :)
Steyn gets to the nuts and bolts, us usual. He sees it the way I do. I'm mortified and shocked by the direction our country has taken, and I constantly wonder why the people around me don't see their liberties swirling down the drain.

[Feeling a little flip today. Sry.]
Who the heck is Cardinal Borgia?

flo - Cardinal Borgia became pope in a different age.
DeleteOn the one hand - pious? Not. So. Much.
On the other hand - nobody scr*wed with the church, or with him, lightly.

ReplyDeleteAFW: is there a guest-author post in our future? I'd love to hear your thoughts on all of this.
