I'm a bit late but today, Feb 25, would have been George's 69th Birthday. Such a great talent who died way too young. Lots of people think that all of The Beatles hits were written and performed by Lennon/McCartney but George had his fair share, here are some examples:
Don't Bother Me
Something
I Need You
George was under appreciated. He did great stuff with the Beatles and then made a very viable career afterwards. His solo stuff and then his collabarations with Clapton and the Wilbury's produced some great music. I never quite understood why the Sir Paulian one was praised and exaulted while George was left to blow wind. I'd take anything George did over Sir Paul.
ReplyDeleteBecause Harrison's art was deep and challenging. McCartney's was light and unthreatening.
DeleteExcellent analysis lewy.
DeleteGeorge was always my favorite. At 10, I thought he was the one I had the best chance of marrying :-)
ReplyDeleteI so agree with Fay that he was under appreciated. His sitar music was beautiful. I have the Time Magazine that featured him on the cover after his death around here somewhere. I just put his autobiography, I Me Mine, in my wish list.
LOL at your 10 year old self florrie! Isn't it funny how we remember our childhood fantasies :)
DeleteI love George's voice and his songwriting. He was my fave too, and it's his songs that I find myself humming or singing more often than McCartney's. I think that his songs have a timeless quality and a depth that is lacking in the fluffier stuff penned by "Sir Paul".
ReplyDeleteThanks Fay. Wonderful vids.
Glad you enjoyed them lr.
