The menu of the new restaurant at 2118 N. Fourth St., which opened on Jan. 17, is comfortable, too -- packed with country staples as familiar to many as breathing.
Among them: fried chicken, ribs, catfish, beef brisket, roasted pork loin, chicken-fried steak, macaroni and cheese, cornbread stuffing, mashed potatoes, greens, cole slaw, potato salad, fried okra, three types of beans, candied yams, fruit cobblers and sweet potato pie.
Oh my, I'm suddenly starving! I predict that Mr. Joseph will be a huge success. HUGE.
Dang you, Lady Red... it's two hours until lunch and a 7 hour drive to Flagstaff! Or something. And I'm hungry now thanks to you. :)
ReplyDeleteMy mother was a waitress and her restaurant served similar fare but with a somewhat larger menu maybe, to include collards, turnips, mustard greens, dumplings, etc. You'd pick your meat, sides, whatever you wanted. All were priced individually. Plus - they made their own donuts! I loved eating there.
Gotcha! :) If you jump in your car and peel rubber, you can zoom to Phoenix, hang a right on I-17, and be at Nelly's in four hours or so. Ribs! Mustard greens! Sweet potato pie! Mmmmm.... :D
ReplyDeleteWell, goes to show, I should have RTFA before commenting. :(
ReplyDeleteHe does have all the good greens! Sweet potato pie... yummmmm.
Let's see, if I left now I could be back home in time for dinner. :)
Oh dear Lord. WANT. WANNNNTTTTTT!
ReplyDeleteThis was just mean, lady red. I'm trying to make weight here (nothing planned for sure, I'd just like to be able to say I've had a boxing match before we move. You know, for the resume. :) and so while I look forlornly at my chicken salad with craptasticly bland dressing, I'm thinking of that plate there. That plate.
That plate has, like, light shining from it. It's like The Holy Grail of delicious comfort food.
I'm going to cry myself to sleep tonight thinking of that.
craptasticly
ReplyDelete*giggling*
my mouth is watering now.
ReplyDeleteWhen are you moving back to the States Pamela?
